I found this old short lived animated series about a guy and girl at the mercy of an omnipotent instructor who teaches them skills though his instructions are often sadistic and leave both of them dead. It's called Skill Me Now. Only six episodes were made.

The did a REALLY good job on animating the musicians here - musical instruments are an obsession of mine, and they're something animators almost always get wrong in one way or another.
