Kathy Bates is the new Matlock.

I heard about the reboot! I will definitely have to watch it when it comes out :)
I just saw an ad for it. It premieres Sept 22 on CBS.

At the end Nixon morphs into Humphrey Bogart as Captain Queeg (Herman Wouk's fictional psychotic US Navy captain) in the movie "The Caine Mutiny".

Kathy Bates, I liked her in Fried Green Tomatoes. Will be interesting to see her as a lawyer.

Cathy Bates has quite a range.

She played a crazed fan of a Stephen King type author, played by James Caan, whom she kidnaps and keeps imprisoned in her home...in the movie based on the Stephen King novel of the same title: "Misery".

This is tough. I like the old Perry Mason, but I also like Matlock (even before I got older).

Monk is very good.

Kathy Bates as Matlock is interesting. I've only seen one episode. Enough to know she has secrets, but why? Oh. We learn that in the closing scene of episode one.

I like Dragnet! I started watching some episodes a month or so ago. I haven't watch some in a while and will have to watch some more!

That is one of my favorite episodes. The B&W series from the 50s had some good moments too. The 1967-1970 is a bit more relatable.

Neither for me. My mom likes Perry Mason though, but I think it's boring and sometimes creepy.

I enjoyed both Matlock and Perry Mason, but always did prefer Matlock more. Perry Mason always seemed too serious, dark, and sometimes a little creepy to me. Matlock was always just as clever in the courtroom, but was always with a more lighthearted southern manner. The only other court room show I really ever enjoyed was night court

Why have I not responded to this post?
I really enjoy Perry Mason and Matlock.
I also really enjoy Monk, very much.
I use to watch Dragnet in the late '60s and early '70s. Jack Webb's dry delivery was very distinct. That and the facts, just the facts.
The Rockford Files I watched in the '70s as well. It is the only one I have not revisited, but I remember as a teen I enjoyed it.
I have the disc collection of Monk. I initially had it on DVD, in separate seasonal box releases. Then I bought it on Blu-Ray and gave the DVDs to a friend.
The new Matlock isn't really like the old Matlock, except for the age factor. There is an over arching story that Kathy Bates is pursuing, but each episode more or less has a distinct story. I watch the new episodes.
On the detective/humor side, I also enjoy Psych.
But I enjoy Perry Mason and Matlock. I do not have a one or the other preference.
