The Top 20 Geek Movies of all time
the 2001 movie was trash!
the book was only moderately enjoyable. But the movie was one of the worst adaptions in cinematic history!
Stanley Kubrick should have been shot for that effort rather than lauded!
Jesus Christ! I've just had this same debate with my mom, who sounds exactly like you.

I love 2001, the book and the movie. I thought the film was way ahead of it's time, and perhaps one of the most enjoyable, awe-inspiring movies ever made.
I like Blade Runner, it was a good film, though I expected it to be somewhat better based on the crazy hype.

Shoot, I haven't seen half of these. I think I need to update my netflix queue
I don't agree with the list...I like some of those but find others highly overrated. Then there's some that are like...uh...okay, but not THAT great. I mean, Short Circuit?? WTF? And Pi, while a good movie, is hardly something worth putting on a Best Of list...it's good but not that special.
And for everyone saying it should have Real Genius, it seems like this is a list of movies that appeal to film geeks (i.e. people like the ones at Ain't It Cool News) rather than films ABOUT geeks. "Geek Cinema" usually refers to films like Lord of the Rings, Spider-Man, etc.
I think it'd be hard to make a list like this without putting in favoritism, though.

Blade Runner and Planet of the Apes were MUCH too fine to just be considered geek films theyre ART.
Ive read the books and seen the movies of most.
Weird Science DOES NOT hold up over the years I watched it a couple years back in a hotel room and I was horrified.
I think It's important to see movies before the hype.
I saw Forrest Gump pre Hype and liked it watched Titantic after and hated it.
What about Goonies? The very TITLE means geek!
