I figured as much. Anyway, I have nothing against wrestling. I'm just against it being aired on the Sci Fi channel. It's disorganized, and I figured it would irritate every science fiction geek out there.

You have nothing against wrestling? Your 'wrestlers/wrestling fans are illiterate' (I couldn't figure which one you meant) rant begs to differ.

I'm going to guess, "desperation on both sides" is the reason that "ECW" is on Sci-Fi. The WWE has been in a lull since around the middle of this decade. Frankly, I have no idea what the hell trying to have three TV shows with segregated rosters, one of which on a completely nonsensical channel as this thread points out, is going to solve. As it is, there's no real reason to watch ECW anymore and Smackdown's still the B-Show...

As for the stereotype about wrestling fans being illiterate, I beg to differ. It's outdated. If anything, too many of them can read and have access to the internet (NOT a good thing). Most wrestling fans are nerds and social outcasts. Some of them are even aspies, others just plain obsessed. Wrestling fans are like comic book geeks, but worse.

I should have made my rant clearer. I was saying that whoever decided that show belonged there might have been a bit challenged, since the channel is clearly marked "Sci Fi", and I thought we had specialized TV channels with different categories for a reason.

As a wrestling fan and aspie myself, what I think is that there aren't enough fans who fall in the middle when it comes to wrestling. The majority of wrestling fans are either what we call marks - people who still think it's real (yes they exist) or are just idiots, or both - or smarks - smark marks; people who know most of the ins and outs of the business and yet are easier to fool, though harder to please. Not enough people fall in the middle, like I do. I know a lot of the ins and outs so I can enjoy a great match, the storytelling, the way it's booked; but I can enjoy it on a base 'this is a modern freakshow, but I love it' kind of way as well.

Cheerfully withdrawn.

The fact that Sci-Fi has not been broadcasting programs outside of there genre is a trend that has been going on since MTV mostly stopped playing music videos in the late 20th century. The same thing happened to the A&E networks, Discovery networks too.

Same reason the Travel channel has poker tournements. What does poker have to do with travel? Probably because the nerotypicals who run the channels don't think travel and science fiction are intresting to other NT's and think they need to put something "intresting" on. Animal Planet is the same way too. They should change the name to people planet. I don't care how popular animal cops is and the animal cruelty agents are angels but it's still a people show. They focus on the agents not the animals like all the other shows. What bothers me is how TLC went from an education channel to a fashion network. There is nothing educational about it. I wish someone would put the veternarian from Animal Cops Huston on What not to wear(That tacky bandana she wears makes me cringe.)

It's no wonder I can't find anything decent to watch on TLC anymore, but the least they could do is change the name to Fashion Network. Now I wish I had the health channel, or something else that actually is educational.

Why does MTV show non-music programs?
Why does TV Land show modern reality shows that have nothing to do with classic TV?
Why does ABC Family show non-family-friendly shows?
Why did GSN (Game Show Network) experiment with reality and dating shows? (Thankfully that fell through.)
etc.

It all goes back to ratings and profitability. It seems that niche channels of any kind pretty much have to alienate their diehard fanbase in order to bring in revenue. We might as well make every channel a "general interest" channel. It's not about what the people running the channels like (and I really don't appreciate the overgeneralizations about NTs), it's about $$$$$.

That is exactly why they're essentially generalizating their channels, to maximize profit. Most cable networks are owned by corporations, which sole goal is to make as much profit in the short term. Then at the next short term make even more profit.

Hence the reason why most cable channels have became "general interest reality show channel 15".

Another related question, how much of that profit actually gets reinvested on improving the networks instead of going straight to the shareholders?

Heh, never heard Enterprise described as visionary.

Anyway, I'm cool with it. So far, at least, this is the only big departure for the network (wrong genre anime I'll give a pass to on account of audience overlap). They still run a lot of great shows and haven't lost their mission like MTV or G4. I noticed they recently picked up Joan of Arcadia which I highly approve.

I don't exactly think Enterprise was visionary. I think it ended prematurely because they were running out of new story lines, and it got too predictable. And exactly how does captain Archer encounter the borg, when by all accounts from Star Trek TNG Captain Picard's crew were the first humans to encounter them? A lot of shows on that channel are very unique though. I also approve of the anime and like Jone of Arcadia.
