Can you easily follow a movie's plot?

When you watch a movie for the first time, do you easily follow the plot?

No, following plots is an infuriating challenge for me and I tend to spend visits to the cinema (which my autistic friends visit regularly and which I visit purely to be social) attempting to work out how long before the credits roll! This has become a real frustration for me because I have recently learned Defying Gravity in British Sign Language (the piece is a Sign-song classic) and this has tempted me to see Wicked, but I am unsure I could follow the plot or concentrate for such a length of time at the moment! Ultimately this will not put me off going at some point but still!

It depends on the movie. Some movies have simple plots that make sense and are clearly spelled out, others make no sense to me. My attention span for movies is usually quite low, and slower-moving films can easily put me to sleep (literally!).

On a related note, one thing I've noticed is that I'm terrible at catching characters' names and remembering them. I don't know why.

Usually I can. Sometimes I have to wait for the end till I can put it all together, and think - Okay, I get it!

Ummmm, I've got about a 50/50 chance of "getting it". I guess it's like the OPs have said, it depends on the movie. Sometimes I have to watch a movie a few times----3 seems to be the magic number. Also, I HATE it when they put, say, two blonde women in a film, and I keep getting them mixed-up. Also, when two characters' names are similar----like in "Lord of the Rings" with Sauron, and Saruman. GOD, that drove me CRAZY!! !! !! !

UGH me too!!

i can hardy follow any movies. live action is a bit harder when characters look mostly the same, but it's a trivial difference.
i find it hard to understand sometimes what characters are saying in movies, so i may end up missing important plot points. here, subtitles are a godsend.
