Sick of the same old Hollywood crap? Walk out on movies?
One person's excrement is another person's dessert... (how awful does that sound?).
Anyway I guess I'm trying to say that a lot of indie films need to hit a nerve. Either you relate, or you don't.
I personally lean more towards foreign films than indie films (though sometimes they're one and the same) because a foreign film which makes it out to an English speaking country is usually the "cream of the crop" - the best of the best.

Very true. At least with indie films, I can somewhat forgive one for being "excrement," due to limited budgets and other obstacles. I will not forgive an excremental Hollywood film though, because with all the millions which go into one these days, they have no real excuse for doing a bad job.
Unfortunately, I've been seeing a trend in the latest movies which is similar to the trend in video games: "ZOMFG!!1!11" visual effects... mediocre everything else. That's not to say I don't like the ZOMFG effects in movies, but they alone can't tell a good story. And I don't even bother with most of the non-ZOMFG films nowadays, because they don't even have THAT. Scriptwriting must be a dead art.

Eh... I work in a hospital lab, so I can honestly say that anything from another person's body that passes through my hands does not bring images of 'dessert' to mind for me!

You're right on about that!

Wow... I agree with this too! Am I a 'Yes' man to everything?
Anyway, I don't really know what ZOMFG is (gonna go look it up on the internet after this post), but I figure it's similar to what I was saying in an earlier post.... too much cg and fx which seem to carry the movie more than the acting and dialogue.
I don't think scriptwriting is a dead art... I really think it's the mindset of the decision makers in Hollywood and what they think the audience really wants.
Personally, I believe that this whole train of thought that the audience really wants nothing more than cg and fx littering the screen, is incorrect. I feel it's more that Hollywood has pushed this so heavily that people are growing accustomed to it and have therefore taken a liking to it... not demanded it.
Just like the car industry.... Ford, Chevy and Dodge have pushed this image of the 'Real Man' and his Big Truck for so long that we have this culture which has sprung up around that idea. Consequently, we have too many people driving around in rigs that they honestly have no need for.... Dodge Trucks with Cummings diesel engines whining away inside, Big 4-wheel drives with no where to go except down the paved highways, Hummers with all that wasted off-road potential because they look too pretty....
It's driven by the companies until the general public latches on and falls into line.
Or so I think, anyway.

If you're looking for something good to watch, see if you can get hold of Goodnight Sweetheart. It's a television series, not a film, but well worth watching. Each episode follows on from the previous one so make sure you buy them all and watch them in order. I've just decided to start watching the series again and half wish I hadn't as I find it is very emotionally involving (unusual for me).
The series is an outstanding mix of comedy with a serious, complex plot. It will make you laugh, make you cry and by the end you know the characters so well, they are like your friends.

Well, now we have "reboots". In some cases they were good (Batman Begins), but I have a feeling that the movie companies are just going to use Batman Begins/the Dark Knight's being label as "reboots" to allude people that the new reboots are good (i.e., the new Predator reboot).
