Love the thought, Fnord, but there have been multiple-times-daily reminders on the tv since who the hell knows when so the people who really enjoy that crap will probably have bought their converter boxes by now. Also, local stations will be running tests possibly weekly.

I'm suggesting nothing of the kind. Nor am I making fun of any New Orleanians. The "Eejitt-Speak" I presented is a closely para-phrased quote of what someone said to me when I asked him if he was ready for the digital TV conversion.

However, there is no denying that some folks just don't believe it when they're warned about an impending disaster and don't believe in the need to act to avoid it while they're able to. Other examples:

- People that disregard "Safe Sex" warnings when they are at high risk for AIDS, and have unprotected sex with multiple partners.

- People that disregard the Surgeon General's warnings on tobacco use, and then smoke or dip freely.

- People that ignore the risks of a DUI conviction, and literally drive while drinking alcohol.

- People that ignore their physician's advice, and then go on to eat as much as they can while exercising as little as possible.

- People that keep rebuilding in areas prone to flood, wildfire, earthquake, landslide, hurricanes, and other natural disasters.

- And many others.

Therefore, I assert that there are also people that simply do not understand that the upcoming digital TV conversion is going to directly affect them, and that they will be in a state of denial long after the conversion takes effect.

We'll just have to wait for the evidence.

It's alright sometimes, at least you have something to watch when there is nothing but crap "recent classics from the last few years ie. repeats, not real classics" on the box that will keep you on your seat.

When Film first came about people though that it would be an amazing new medium that could take art and culture to new heights.

I wish I could travel back in time and tell them that we just end up using it to show people slagging each other off, call it "reality" television and make loads of money by advertising pointless crap in between each mind numbingly terrible new show. I could probably stop everyone from getting so excited by the concept.

For once, I am in the majority on this one!

I have a strong objection to anything my age group likes. It's just making us look dumb. Actually got into a fight with my older sister about this last night.
