Actually, I'm not so fond of the remakes. It seems all they really do is make them more cynical and violent. I'd rather see more NEW CREATIVE movies and shows with some real content -- and scrap all thos BORING reality shows. Who wants to watch a bunch of people gossip and bicker?????

Yeah I totally agree with you! And this refering to the remakes I have seen and or heard about. They are just twisted action and stupid special effects. They rarely keep much in common with the original except the name. One example is the "Mission Impossible" series featuring Tom Cruise. What the heck was that all about??! Didnt keep much of the original and creative ideas from the 60's and 80's series...

I agree with recasting The Matrix... I've never been able to watch it through, and I blame Keanu Reeves. I think I could get into the character, but I cannot get into the character as portrayed by him. What I saw of him in it told me that they didn't give him a whole lot of lines, and his bland personality did not fill in the blanks.

I'd like to see a remake of The Little Mermaid. I don't expect the original ending restored, and really I'm okay with their version... H.C. Andersen had a funny idea of what made an ending happy. I wouldn't expect that kind of happy to fly with a kids' film. They just don't get the value of the soulless mermaid gaining a soul. No, what I want to see them fix is the animation. The music was quite good; not always my thing, but an undeniable success. But the animation really had a lot of problems. I swear she had a different face every scene. Given how close they came to making a great kids' movie, I'd love to see the characters drawn with some awareness of human anatomy and with a consistent design throughout. They could take some advice from Miyazaki-san. Better yet, let him do it. Better still, let him start from scratch!

I think they should provide modern equivalents of some of the real classics

I'd love to see a modern remake (but not in a slasher/king-kong style) of The Golem. Something with feeling that gives all the characters the sympathetic angle they need. I know it was remade about three times before 1930 but I don't think it's had a big budget millennium remake.

or what about..

The Cabinet of Dr Caligari?

and I'd love to see a decent BIG BUDGET version of Day of the Triffids... The BBC version was good - better than the 1962 movie but dammit... I wanted more.

That would be nice, indeed! But only if they choose not to remove Richard Dean Anderson from the show ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Dean_Anderson ).

Yeah I agree with that one. They should just give it a modern profile and get rid of all the 80's sounds, lol. And it wouldnt be the same without Also "Jack Dalton" (forgot the actors name) and Dana Elcar, but I dont want "Nikki" on, she was quite annoying...

And my brother in law once told me that Richard Dean Anderson has died in Aids. I was kinda chocked and emediately searched the net for it but I never found any proof of it. I still dont know if that was a bad joke....

He does that Stargate show on Sci Fi - or wherever. (At least in the South US). I think its relatively current. He looks pretty much the same! He could easily do MacGyver again.

He even did this sweet MasterCard commercial a few years ago:

Good movies should never be remade. For evidence, I present The Day The Earth Stood Still.

On the other hand, Plan 9 should be remade like Dawn of the Dead was. Turn it all up to eleven. Oh, and make the gravestones out of something that won't wobble when a coat brushes them. Get more zombies, better aliens, the whole nine yards. But, it would be beyond epic if someone remade it and didn't change the plot or lines. Maybe SciFi would do it, it'd be sweet.I'm really curious how much of that movie was crap because of the lines, and how much was just bad production and acting.

Ah, true, yet I look forward to seeing the new one on disc as the clips of Keanu Reeves acting in the trailer were convulsingly funny.

I don't take a public stance on KR's acting ability. I like some of his films, but not all of them.

If you liked the original, and what it was talking about, let me assure you that none of it applies to the new one. They reversed the entire point of the alien arrival. Hell, "Klaatu Barada Nikto" wasn't even in the movie!! !

With all those TV/movie remakes (Knight Rider, American Gladitors, The Electric Company, Nickelodeon GUTS, etc.) nowadays, I want to see "Double Dare" and "Saved By The Bell" get remaked.

Double Dare got re-made into Double Dare 2000 back in 1999/2000. It was on Nick GAS forever, but that channel recently got replaced by The N a few months ago.

I loved the original Planet Of The Apes, but have tried and failed on two occasions to sit through the remake.

Oh, no, the original was great. I was thinking more of watching the new one from the perspective of mocking it, kind of a Mystery Science Theater 3000 approach. Keanu Reeves in the clips that I saw acted so poorly that I have to assume his acting is even funnier (in its woodenness) throughout the movie. But no, I never would have figured that a remake theatrical action blockbuster version of the original, complete with famous, expensive movie stars, would ever had anything worthwhile to say.

CBS should consider re-doing Survivor as an actual TV show.

And FOX should consider re-doing American Idol as an actual TV show as well.
Cast real actors in the Simon, Paula, and Randy roles, respectively, and
cast actual singers as singers looking for a big break.

Simon should be played by Hugh Laurie.
