I saw it when it came out in theatres and was very disappointed. For much of it I honestly felt bored because the pace was so slow. Don't get me wrong, it's a good film. Very well executed in many ways. But there's been so much hyperbole, so many people calling it a masterpiece, singing its praises to no end, that you go in expecting something truly special. It isn't. It's a LITTLE film. It's a VERY little film. It's well executed, but PLEASE don't go in expecting something huge or life-changing or incredible. It's just a well-done little vampire film. It's a sad case that with the genre, the fact that such a little film like this would be such a big thing...it's really telling about how many flat-out terrible vampire films there are.

Maybe it's just not what I want from a vampire film. I want a complicated plot (this has a very simple plot), gothic visuals, swordfights, and vampire sex. I knew going in that that wasn't what this was going to be, but I still didn't think it was that good.

I've never seen a more complicated story since Akira.... maybe I'm confusing plot for theme and emotions
If I were a book writer or a film director/producer and I wanted to make something I wouldn't make it mostly for an even more reduced niche of people when the subject matter itself, both in and outside of horror/vampire genres was iffy anyways.

Saw this at Nova cinemas in Melbourne last week. I think it's very clever and edgy, mixing genuine horror with vampires and not relying on buckets of blood and neck sucking to carry the day. That said, I couldn't help but think that this would only be "SBS-worthy" (Australians here will understand this). But it's still a good Vampire film, and definitely not a chick-flick masquerading as a vampire film  .

So what does 'SBS worthy' mean?

SBS = Special Broadcasting Service, a TV channel here that shows international, foreign language, special interest and generally more indie programmes and films. There are some exceptions to this, as it does show some more popular shows like Top Gear, South Park and Mythbusters, and classic films like 2001: A Space Odessey and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. However, it is the former-type shows that SBS is known for.

Since Let The Right One In fits all criteria apart from special interest, it is the channel most likely it will be shown on if it makes it to TV. And from personal experience of watching films on this channel, there is a certain style/quality to the films that SBS shows, and i think Let The Right One In fits this to a T.

I agree with Veresae. I saw both Twilight and Let the Right One In, and Let the Right One In was only slightly better. Certainly the acting was better, but it didn't have much for a story and it wasn't all that deep or thoughtful. Too much gore for my taste as well. You can suck blood without ripping off limbs or heads.

But I like only the Scandinavian version. It´s better and more realistic.
