X-Men: Apocalypse - weak script, but great spectacle, as expected. Xavier seemed particularly insufferable, like every rich guy who wants to save the world.

Started Dark Phoenix, but these writers can't do emotion beyond the very superficial. Should've stuck closer to the comic.

Wolverine is conspicuously missing.

^Yeah, what the hell. You have to replicate the Dark Phoenix scene where he's in the sewer.

Watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That I could enjoy.

The Black Mountain Side.

An archaeologist is sent to a remote research post in the frozen wilds of Canada after the remains of an Ice Age civilization is discovered, as impossible as it might seem. When the local Native workers disappear, and madness and death spread among the team members, realization dawns on them that some discoveries should be left alone.
Very good, low budget horror movie.

Last night we watched:

Little Monsters [2019]
<=>"Playtime is over."

We both enjoyed it!

It is a fun zombie comedy and Lupita Nyong'o is wonderful, and so is her character! The trailer does a reasonable job of representing the movie except the movie doesn't spend much time on the military, it focuses on the kindergarten class on a field trip...during a localized outbreak ofzombies.

And, hey! The movie is set in Australia so why did they customize a set to blame the U.S. army for the zombies?! I'm a U.S. military veteran and the only zombies we dealt with were called "Civil Servants".

Saint Maud.

A mentally ill young woman working as a hospice nurse, who has embraced Catholicism as a means for mental stability, decides to save the soul of a bohemian dance choreographer in her care. When she loses her job for it, she goes off the deep end and believes she's a saint. From there, things can only get horribly worse for all involved.
Very good, very disturbing horror movie where the monster is one's own delusions.

Let's not forget that Simon Kinberg should have made a film about
The Phoenix before doing Dark Phoenix first.

That is true. They tried tying these together like Lord of the Rings, or something, but there's about 20 minutes of character development spread across hours and hours--if that.

I watched the first X-Men out of curiosity, and it had superpowers in place of characters. Even for an action movie. It was like seeing the worst of the comics come to life.

Strongly recommend ex-Machina starring Alicia Vikander if anyone hasn't seen it.
