Three films.

First was a DVD of Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural (1973). I watched the movie the other day, from recording I made off the air. So I watched my new DVD and then I watched with it with commentary by the director/writer Richard Blackburn, producer Robert Fern, and Lesley Gilb (Lemora). I enjoyed the commentary. The director was very upfront about what went well and what didn't. The producer was interesting as well.

On Tubi TV, I watched two documentaries.

The Game is Up: Disillusion Trump Voters Tell Their Stories (2022).
I found it interesting because it features several people, each who voted for Donald Trump in 2016, each for a different reason. Then each tells the story of what changed their opinion about him. The journey of that change is interesting and human.

Making Montgomery Clift (2018).
I've seen other documentary's about Montgomery Cliff, but I really enjoyed this. The ideas came from "a different place" other than what I've seen or read. It was made by Montgomery Cliff's youngest nephew.
Robert Clift's dad was always trying to get the definitive biography written about his brother, but they always fell short of the Monty he knew. I enjoyed this.

Alias Grace
A CBC limited series that I consider a really long film. Much like the Anne of Green Gables films from the 1980s.
Very well done production. It was really cool how they filmed it at the real Kingston penitentiary.

Also directed by Mary Herron and written by the Canadian actress Sarah Polley who as a kid starred in Road to Avonlie

The Cannonball Run

I wanted to watch it with my SO, since she liked cars, and I thought it would be full of cheezy gags. She took issue with the sexuality in the film trailer and we had a fight about it. Months later I finally got to see it alone, sadly, and was pleasantly surprised how self-aware the film is with it's sexual gags. The ending was weak, but quite enjoyable overall.

Liked it. I really loved it when I was a kid.

The Space Between Us. It's sweet and an easy watch.

The 2008 one.
Yeah, it did start off well.

I've not yet watched the 1951 version.
In the 2008 movie I really loved the opening. The dialog as they went down the highway was incredible. Very powerful. Then the movie drifted into obvious CGI and obvious attempts to be socially relevant. Unfortunately they did not retain much of the 1951 movie nor the original short story. (Admittedly, the 1951 movie didn't follow the short story very well, either. I think the movie was much better!)

The 1951 movie is the classic 1950's Science Fiction film. It has some weaknesses but is still the classic from the 1950s. But it is a 1950's Science Fiction film. If, as a rule, you don't like 1950's Science Fiction films then you won't like it, either. Obviously the special effects are not up to current standards. The story has a few traces of corny. And it was arguably socially relevant for 1951—when rocketry and atom bombs were modern marvels and the world situation was tense enough that nations were working toward using rocketry plus atom bombs in warfare.

I am intrigued. Will watch 1951 when I can.

Watched Event Horizon. Some very creative scenes in there! 8O Would recommend.

Last night I watched:

Big Trouble in Little China [1986]
<=>"A Mystical, Action, Adventure, Comedy, Kung Fu, Monster, Ghost Story! "

Fun flick!

I hope you enjoy it.

If you search for "best 1950s science fiction movies", pick a list, and sort the results by IMDb Rating you'll see that I'm not the only one that likes it.

But, admittedly, a lot of folk do not like 1950s science fiction movies in general. Most of those folk would not like The Day the Earth Stood Still [1951].

Oh, speaking of IMDb ratings, just to establish a basis for comparisons:
7.8 -> The Day the Earth Stood Still [1951]
6.2 -> Killer Klowns from Outer Space [1988]
5.5 -> The Day the Earth Stood Still [2008]

I like Carpenter. I watched Big Trouble again a few months ago with my SO, and I was kind of annoyed by the drawn out underground fight scene, there were good effects, but they didn't come together for a coherent experience. Everything else was great though.
