Infinity Pool.

Horror movie made by Brandon Cronenberg (yes, son of THAT Cronenberg). An author and his wife are on vacation in a fictional country, where tourists are kept on the grounds of a prisonlike resort (for their own safety), where they meet another American couple, who take them out on a drunken excursion outside the walls. The author accidentally runs down a local, then is convinced to flee the scene. Soon arrested, he is given the choice of being executed at the hands of the victim's child, or (preferably, by the logic of the board of tourism) be cloned and have his replacement face the punishment. Choosing the latter, he witnesses the killing of his duplicate, after which he learns his new friends are part of a group of western tourists who commit crimes punishable by death in this country, and allow their clones to receive the punishment. Joining them, he finds any morals or sense of right and wrong go out the window, and soon discovers such people have no real regard for him.
Truly bizarre, dark film. Highly recommended.

Annihilation.

Prime example of Lovecraftian cosmic horror. Highly recommended.

Annihilation Is excellent...and a very eerie Science Fiction/Horror film!
Excellent!!And does such a good job passing the Bechdel test that it can't even see the test in the rear-view mirror!

The Spider and the Fly (1949)

This is a fairly run of the mill drama about a police chief, a bank robber, and the woman they both are captivated by. However, it does become very tense and engaging in the final 15 minutes or so, with a shocking revelation right at the end. Stars a Romanian actress called Nadia Gray, who was still extremely attractive when she appeared in an episode of The Prisoner about two decades later (entitled 'The Chimes of Big Ben').

Last night I watched:

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen [2003]
<=>"A Rogue. A Scientist. A Spy. A Hunter. A Vampire. A beast. An Immortal"

Well, as shown below: A beast, an Immortal, a Scientist, a Hunter, a Vampire, a Rogue, and a Spy.

Perhaps not great but I think it is quite good...and fun!

Renfield (2023)

I enjoyed the film. It plays as an extension of the 1931 Dracula with Bela Lugosi and Dwight Frye. Scenes from the film are reused with Nicolas Cage and Nicholas Hoult CGI inserted, replacing Bela and Dwight.
There is horror and there is humor. Ben Schwartz is funny as the son of the mob boss played by Shohreh Aghdashloo. She also controls nearly all of the police force except for Rebecca played by actor/rapper Awkwafina.

I enjoyed Nicolas Cage as Dracula. There are times when he resembles Lugosi. There are times he resembles Christopher Lee. There are even times I was reminded of Lon Chaney in London After Midnight. He has the teeth for it, and sometimes the hat.

Coincidently (???), there was a trailer for the film The Last Voyage of the Demeter. It's a very different film from Renfield.

The Pope's Exorcist (2023)

I really enjoyed this. It was not a typical Lewton Bus Effect movie. It was very visual, and the acting was great.

A mother, her teenage daughter, and her young son move into an old decrepit Spanish estate that use to be a missionary. Gradually it becomes apparent that something evil lives there and then it possesses the son. That when the priest is called, but the local priest learns he is "the wrong priest." That is when Russell Crowe is sent. Russell is very good in this.

Trailer (the movie is better)
