Organ Trail (2023)

So far, everyone I've written to about this movie makes the same mistake I did, reading "Organ Trail" as "Oregon Trail."
Organ Trail makes it sound like a horror movie with gore. It is a horror movie in the same sense that Boris Karloff used the term "horror" movie. The horror is about just plain people, and the unfeeling harm they inflict on others.

There are three psychotic men. Maybe one or two are sociopaths. The distinction really doesn't matter. One literally cannot feel pain and seems unaffected by the pain he inflicts on others. This group, a total of five people, ambushes families in their covered wagons as they camp overnight, killing them without mercy, and stealing what is left. This is what happens to Abigail Archer's family. Only Abigail survives. There is more to it, but it's best to let the story unfold.

There is one spot that is very tense, when one of the guys fires his pistol five times straight into the air. That is when he is taught a lesson about gravity. Unfortunately for the viewer, as psychotics go, he was low hanging fruit and his loss does little for lessening the sense of danger provided by the others. Still, the lesson in "what goes up,..." was a little funny.

Terrific acting and photography. Not much in the way of flashing CGI effects. If there were any, they were not flashy and did not stand out.

Last night I watched:

The Ghost of Frankenstein [1942]
<=>"You can't keep a good monster down!"

Another classic Universal horror film. Watchable and reasonably good.

Fred (2018)

This is described as a 'biopic', but it's more of a documentary in character. Deals with the life of gangster and thief Freddie Foreman, sometimes known as 'Brown Bread Fred', who is best known as an associate of the Kray twins in the 1960s, and for his involvement in the murders of Tom 'Ginger' Marks in 1964, Frank 'The Mad Axeman' Mitchell in 1966 and Jack 'The Hat' McVitie in 1967. Foreman was only found guilty of helping to dispose of McVitie's body, but served ten years for it.

It's an interesting film, with no acting (Foreman appears throughout as himself). Foreman makes some interesting statements, for example when he twice says that the worst crime a man can commit is to bring up his family in poverty (really?). He also implies that he was performing a public service by murdering Mitchell, as the latter had threatened to kill half a dozen policemen! In the last few minutes of the film, we learn that Foreman has been disowned by his children, who include the well-known actor Jamie Foreman.

This and Son of Frankenstein are two of my early film memories from television from around 1964. I do not remember seeing Bride of Frankenstein, but the Bride may have been my first monster model, again from the mid-sixties, when Aurora made great monster and superhero models.

I just saw Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Theives (2023)

I really enjoyed this film. 180 degree turn around from Organ Trail. It had loads of CGI, lots of fantasy, action, humor, good and evil, and great acting. Organ Trail had humor, a bit of action, good and evil, and great acting. It did not have the budget that Dungeons and Dragons had. I would go to this movie several times for the entertainment value.

What struck me most was learning at the end of the film that John Francis Daley, who I know from Freaks and Geeks, and as Lance Sweets from Bones, co-wrote and co-directed the film. It does not surprise me, but I did not see that coming. So, it did surprise me.

If you like fantasy films, I think you will like this.

Is that the one with Vincent Price? Way better than the other adaptation Omega Man, although the Simpson's lampoon of it was pretty funny.

I found it on the free streaming site called TUBI. Look for it and you will find it.

Its runtime is under 90 minutes.

Yes, it is the one with Vincent Price.

TUBI has the original B&W version and a colorized version.

I watched Cocaine Bear last night (currently on holiday in Cornwall.) It’s loosely inspired by the true story of an American black bear that ingested nearly 75 lb (34kg) of lost cocaine in Georgia back in 1985.

Thriller/Comedy(2023) Though I’m not into violence or gore, this was well worth the watch for the unique, quirky characters & was a fun, memorable watch. Unbelievable to think it was based off of true events!

I’m looking forward to seeing The Pope’s Exorcist & Renfield. :)

Tubi TV and Pluto TV are great.

It's a good movie with an ironic ending. (Is ironic the right word?)
