The Boondock Saints (1999)

"Two Irish Catholic brothers become vigilantes and wipe out Boston's criminal underworld in the name of God."

Critically underrated film. Is one of my top 20, but is very profane.

Last night we watched:

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet the Invisible Man [1951]
<=>"AS PRIVATE EYES...they're getting an Eyeful!"

 As you would guess, in the movie you see more of Abbott & Costello than of the Invisible Man.

Late Phases -

A blind Vietnam Veteran moves into a retirement community, where he discovers a werewolf is killing his neighbors, and had killed his seeing eye dog. He has a month to the next full moon to be prepared to kill the creature.
Surprisingly good horror movie.

The Killer, on Netflix. Micheal Fassbender as an assassin that faces dilemmas after messing up an assignment goes wrong. I liked it.

against my better judgment, i saw "saltburn" which IMHO was pure filth with no redeeming personal social value i could find. i saw it in a kansas city [of all places, ground zero of the bible belt] theatre. it was a limited opening debut, due for wide release on november 22. the plotline (AVOID READING IF YOU WANT TO BE TOTALLY SURPRISED BY THE FILM) was................................................................................................................................................................... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . basically a mystery disguised as a study of the decadent lives of the filthy rich and their sexual proclivities. an amoral social-climbing cipher of a young man inveigles himself with the saltburn estate and its richie-rich residents,
much intrigue follows. there were mostly gay couples in the theatre watching with audible [tittering] enjoyment, at seeing these disgusting characters chewing the fat with one another. it reminded me a bit of the 62 year old movie "room at the top" but with none of that movie's class. the only reason i saw it was that they were giving away free tickets and food/drink. so i bit. outside the auditorium there was some kind of PR event going on with costumed characters and people taking pictures under bright lights. i suppose it had social value for people who like this sort of entertainment.

"After Death" which was a documentary study of the phenomenon of the near-death [or Out-Of-Body] experience. absorbing but limited in scope. i wish they had more descriptions of the afterlife and not just discussions of what people's lives were after the experience. but still it was worth watching. "beyond and back" (based on Dr. Raymond Moody MD's 1975 best seller "life after life") was a superior film one might instead choose to watch.

Deep Hatred.

A young woman and her friends spend vacation time at an old cult compound her father used to run. Something there wants revenge for unspeakable things that had happened there years ago.
Could have been a good horror movie, but wasn't.

Persona: Sulli (2023) on Netflix

This is actually in two parts. The first is a short called Clean. The second part are a documentary, Dear Jinri, of interviews with Sulli Choi.

Clean is listed as 4: Clean Island in the IMDB. It is like a dream. I believe the interviews, which appear open and honest, ties the film to her life.

4: Clean Island is listed being made in 2023. She died in 2019, so she must have made the film prior to her death. I found this article that sheds some light on it.

New Netflix Documentary Persona: Sulli 4: Clean Island Opening Drama Explained by Varsha Narayanan for comingsoon.net/k-pop/news

The article includes the warning

Quote:
Trigger Warning: This story discusses suicide. Reader discretion is advised.
because the she took her own life when she was 25.
The film has the warning as well.

The Projected Man (1966)

A much derided film about a teleportation accident, which undoubtedly drew its inspiration from 'The Fly'. Also has an echo or two of Hammer's 'The Reptile' and the same studio's 'She' (which the rather botched ending referenced, I felt). Stars an actor called Bryant Halliday in the male lead role, and Mary Peach, who was the wife of the legendary Hammer script writer and director Jimmy Sangster.

Despite the above references, this is not a Hammer film.

Kotoko- about a mentally ill single mother.

It was both disturbing and touching at the end. The fact that her child did not hate her at the end made me tear up.

Last night I watched:

Creature [1985]
<=>"First you die. . .Then the terror begins"

A low budget Alien-like science fiction/horror film...with the emphasis on horror.

eh eh Sort of OK—if you set your expectations low eh

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Just came out at the movies, and goes for 156 minutes. A prequel about Cornelius Snow, the future president of Panem. I thought it was just as good as the other Hunger Games movies.

The Marvels

Meh.

Too relationship-y and slow, then action way to fast to see who is doing what.
