Last night we watched:

The Giant Spider [2013]
<=>"Eight creeping, crawling legs of sheer TERROR!"

Eighth movie in the Mihmiverse.

\o/R E C O M M E N D E D ! !\o/
HUMOR

And, let me clarify. From what I've read and seen I think it is fair to say that the Mihmverse films are parodies of 1950's Science Fiction movies but I don't believe you need to be too familiar with those films to enjoy the Mihmverse. If you have had some exposure to the 1950's Science Fiction films then the HUMOR in the Mihmverse will be what I think you will enjoy.

I enjoy 1950's Science Fiction movies; my bride can sometimes tolerate one or two of them but generally does not like them. But we are both very entertained by the Mihmverse films we've seen so far.

This film seems like a 1950s B movie. It might actually be a bit more polished than the other Mihmverse films we've already seen...possibly edging toward too polished?.

...but, like I said above, we both enjoyed this film!

Juno: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0467406/

and

Mysterious Island of Beautiful Women: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079598

Both are good, depending on your mood.

Alien Romulus.

Workers treated like indentured servants on a mining planet seek to escape the villainous company (responsible for all deaths in every Alien movie) by reaching a decommissioned space station, when they find the crew had been slaughtered by alien Xenomorphs. There, they discover the company's insidious plot to create Xenomorph/human hybrids for space colonization. Worse, not only is an Ian Holm android, brought back to life, bent on carrying out the company's schemes, but Xenomorphs have turned the doomed station into a hive.
First rate addition to the Alien franchise.

We moved on and watched:

The Late Night Double Feature [2014]

It was one movie pretending to be a double feature of two movies:
X: The Fiend from Beyond Space
The Wall People

Ninth movie in the Mihmiverse.

Because the Mihmiverse is good!

I confess I had to rewatch The Wall People portion of the film just as I had had to rewatch House of Ghosts [2012]. And I see a pattern! Both had a heavy flavoring of fantasy! They'd still be the kind of movie associated with 1950's B-movies in the Sci-Fi realm...but with a lot of fantasy stirred in.

Roman Polanski never disappoints.

I saw Sixteen Candles for the first time over the weekend. I have seen Ferris Bueller and Pretty in Pink, and once saw the opening scenes of the Breakfast Club and lost interest, but Sixteen Candles was absolutely nothing like what I expected.

Not what you expected in a good or bad way?

Years and years ago. I hardly remember it.

Well I assumed it would be a wacky, irreverent, but heartwarming romantic comedy about a girl turning 16. It was actually more of a farce in which women were treated as sex objects, with a possible rape done for laughs. The main character, played when the actress was 15, arguably dreams of being a sex object. Sort of Caddyshack for high school.

Shows you how what was once considered funny and acceptable isn't any more.

Last night we watched two movies:

A Day Without a Mexican [2004]
<=>"On May 14 there will be no Mexicans in California."
<=+=>Disclaimer: "No Mexicans were harmed in the making of this film".

A reminder that the U.S. economy is strongly reliant on Latinos working in the U.S.
<=+=>It just seemed like a good time to watch the film again.

Danny Johnson Saves the World [2015]
<=>"The remarkable story of one boy's unbelievable adventure!"

Tenth movie in the Mihmiverse.

EXCELLENT!\o/E X C E L L E N T\o/G E N T L E\o/F U N ! !\o/

The Wild Robot (2024)
streamed on Peacock.

Possibly my favorite movie of the year, and because I recognize that is possibly a funny thing to say, since it is January, I'll say it is my favorite film of 2024 as well.

I really liked the overall look of the computer animated image. It was very soft. Not out of focus soft, but soft like feathered brush strokes.

The trailer doesn't do it justice, because the trailer doesn't tell a story.
If my sons were still kids, I would watch it with them. Age range? I'm not good with that. It is rated PG.

This is better.

Bran Nue Day -- An Australian movie, about the dispossession of the Aborigines, almost like a Disney musical, but with typical Australian cheekiness.

Well done! I recommend it!! Very original.

The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977)

Several media/film parody skits. Media, as in television. Film as in trailers, and feature length and short films.

Lots of funny bits.
Some very R RATED bits that are juvenile not particularly funny bits. They would appeal to some males back in 1977, and undoubtedly some males today.
Some politically incorrect bits, but I have to say they were politically incorrect back then as well. Hence the humor, if one recognizes them as intentionally in bad taste, thus humorous for shock value. I cannot group the Rate R bits in this category. They are just tasteless, in my opinion.

Favorite bits.
A Fistful of Yen - a Bruce Lee parody.
Zinc Oxide - an educational short parody. I found this funny because MST3K has riffed such shorts, such as A Case of Spring Fever about a world without springs. Zinc Oxide is a world without Zinc Oxide. A mom's house is destroyed.
Courtroom - a silly parody of a court case. Tony Dow appears as Wally Clever and Jerry Zucker plays the Beaver. They are on the jury and quite funny. Forrest J. Ackerman (editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland) is on the jury too. Those are the three main reasons I liked this bit.

Minor trivia I just know.
Makeup artist Rick Baker appears as a gorilla. John Landis (director) used Ricks primate makeup skills previously in the movie Schlock where John played the ape. Forry Ackerman was also in Schlock, and John Landis was in Famous Monsters of Filmland (Forry Ackerman's magazine) when he was a kid. Rick also created the gorilla outfit for the Dino De Laurentiis version of King Kong in 1976. He also played Kong.

On average, I would give the film 6 stars out of 10, but some of the silly bits are quite funny. I'd give them 8 stars.
