Wargames (1983)
I enjoyed in 1983.
I enjoyed less in the 2000s.
I enjoyed it more today. Not as much as in 1983, but I found it more enjoyable than twenty years ago.

My only actual gripe is the code for the nuclear missiles. It could/should be better, but by 1983 standards it was probably considered impenetrable. CPE1704TKS
The nuclear war(s) in 1979 did not require any penetration at all.

It took me about 15 to 20 minutes, but then the HA! moment came. Wish I phrased that differently.

I was not questioning what you said but rather the robustness of the U.S. nuclear war systems.

Whether the passcodes/passwords had been strong or weak, in 1979-1980, I don't think it would've mattered. The computers really did say WWIII had started and it had nothing to do with weak passwords. It was just a good thing there were reasonable humans in the loop.

With Wargames, I just kept it on the IFC channel.
It was followed up by Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)
Followed by Weird Science (1985)

They were okay. I really like Edie McClurg, who plays Grace the school assistant to Ed Rooney (Jeffery Jones).

Tangentially related. One of my favorite RiffTrax films is RiffTrax: Ghosthouse (2012)
In it, a ham radio operator is has a discussion about how is more popular in Denver, Kim Bassinger or Kelly LeBrock? So Kelly LeBrock relates to Weird Science, so now I know who she is. Does it help Ghosthouse or the riffs that call back to that scene? No. It just added to the knowledgebase.

So I'll reverse the "ha" to ah. It think the premise was they took the human element out of it, and it was all placed in the bits and bytes of a super computer. I missed the very beginning of the movie.

It's been awhile since I've watched the movie. Wasn't it humans not realizing they were talking about games with a computer that didn't want to play games.

I'm afraid I went further afield from that. In 1979 the human forgot to tell the computer it was a war simulation. After that the computer was just garbling information due to hardware problems.

You can ignore this. I am off-topic. My only point was that in the 1979-1980 incidents computer malfunctions nearly started WWIII without any ill-intent by humans.

The Wind.

Horror western, in which a woman, living on the western frontier with her husband, who had lost her baby at birth years before, have new neighbors; a man who is ill equipped for living out west, and his mentally unstable pregnant wife. She comes to believe the always present wind is a harbinger for some unseen entity when the neighbor lady speaks of the same delusions.
Great psychological thriller.

- - did i say that already, Munchhausen is very near to Strasburg 8)
"The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" is 1988 fantasy adventure film
An international co-production of the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany, the film is based on the tall tales of the 18th-century German nobleman, Baron Munchausen, and his wartime exploits against the Ottoman Empire.

Village of the Damned (1960)

This is a classic, and it is the first time I've seen it. Skillfully mysterious and creepy.
Note the trailer loses some of that skillfulness.

Carrie.

The good 1976 version. I had forgotten how sparse the story really is, but still De Palma pulled it off.
If it did anything, it made me remember how insecure I had felt back in high school due to bullying and isolation. I've always rooted for Carrie White.

Butcher's Crossing.

Very dark western. A young Harvard dropout named William goes out west to see the world, hoping for a job from a family friend in the Buffalo hide business. There, he discovers this man takes advantage of hunters for financial gain, and so joins up with an enigmatic hunter named Miller, who speaks of an isolated valley full of prime buffalo. Finding this western Shangri-La late in the year, they hunt and hunt and hunt, even though winter is approaching. But Miller won't leave, promising riches for his party, while his motivation is to be the hunter with the biggest number of kills. But when winter comes, the only pass into and out of the valley is snowed in...
Very dark existential movie, where perhaps Miller is a western Ahab, and his lust for notoriety is his white whale, even at the expense of all others with him. Highly recommended!

Skincare.

Dark comedy in which a Hollywood skin spa owner, after being harassed and her business sabotaged, believes the culprit is her competition next door. Then she discovers who is really behind it all.
Enjoyable flick.

The Parenting.

A gay couple invite their parents over to a vacation rental, where there is clearly a clash of class. And then it becomes evident that the house is haunted by a demon looking for a new host.
Great horror/comedy.
