The Deadly Mantis.

I remembered really loving this stinker, about a gigantic praying mantis set loose on the world, back when I was a kid.

If you could have an obedient "emotional support" robot would you tell your friends it was a robot?

Would you tell it?

Well. Watching that preview certainly put a crimp in my dream of getting a companion robot. :|

Fantastic Four: First Steps

Out already here in Australia.
Without spoiling too much, the aesthetic is HEAVILY inspired by the 1967 cartoon.

RiffTrax: Julie and Jack (2015)

Mike, Kevin, and Bill riff the first film written and directed by independent film maker James Nguyen
They made it funny.

Julie and Jack: IMDB description wrote:
A computer chip salesman dates a software designer in a virtual reality program.

Julie and Jack (2003) is a low budget film. It is not the most technically a great film, but there is something I like about it. Dare I say it is almost sweet.
James went on to write and direct Birdemic: Shock and Terrorin 2010.
Trivia: Tippi Hedren plays Julie's mom in the movie. She has to excuse herself because the birds are calling. Can't say that line was not written just for her.

Musings about directors
I admire James Nguyen's films. Again, they are not Hollywood block busters, and he is not as adept as Christopher Mihm, but he has his passions; global warming and the environment, technology, love stories. He uses many of the same actors. His writing is okay. He is more focused than Tommy Wiseau and Tommy has more money (6 million vs 10,000 range). Christopher Mihm seems to make best use of his limited budgets. James is more serious. I think he genuinely loves movies and making them, but I think that is true for all three film auteurs.

Do I recommend this film? I cannot say most people will enjoy this film. Most IMDB user rate it a 1/10, followed by 2/10, 3/10, then 10/10 (one person less than those that rated it 3). I rated it a 6.
Do I recommend this film riffed? If you enjoy MST3K or Rifftrax, yes. Most IMDB user rate it 10/10, followed by 7/10 and 8/10. However, only 68 people have left ratings, versus 774 for the actual movie.

Ghoul.

An American film crew shoots a documentary in rural Ukraine about the cannibalism that had occurred there during Stalin's man made famine, when they are sidetracked by a story about a haunting at an isolated farm. Soon, they realize the story is connected to a real life Soviet era serial killer who won't let them leave.
Great found footage horror flick.

Just on the fence with this one ... I didn't care all that much for it ... sad to say. You?

EDIT: In memory of Tony Todd was appropriate; though.

Rifftrax: The Boy in the Plastic Bubble (2010)

I remember when this movie was originally on television. Based on a "true" story.
The fictional story of a boy born without an immune system, and must live in an isolated environment.
Tagline on a DVD case: "He had to choose between LIFE or LOVE and DEATH..."

The father is played by Robert Reed. The mother played by Diana Hyland. The baby grows into toddler and into a teenager, played by John Travolta with a luxurious head of hair and when he was on Welcome Back, Kotter.

The Boy in the Plastic Bubble (1976)
I found the IMDB Trivia a bit depressing.

The Rifftrax guys had me laughing again.

It is available on YouTube

Last night we watched:

Cowboys vs Dinosaurs [2015]
<=>"Let The Best Species Win..."

Be reasonable with your expectations for this movie though I think the IMDb user rating could be slightly higher...it is currently 2.8.

(Neither of us regrets watching the movie.)

Rifftrax: Cool as Ice (2013)

Starring Vanilla Ice (born Robert Matthew Van Winkle)

Cool as Ice (1991)

Fun fact from IMDB Ratings
Cowboys vs Dinosaurs has a 2.8 rating
Cool as Ice has a 3.0 rating
I don't understand. That is insane. Cowboys vs Dinosaurs is way better in a SyFy channel way.

This movie deserved to be riffed by Mike, Kevin, and Bill. I think they were easy on it. They lived up to their slogan "We make bad movies funny."

I agree! "Cowboys vs Dinosaurs" [2015] is likely better.

Also Grand!

...but, yikes. What other movies and TV series go best with this?

Feral.

A group of college friends go camping in the deep wilderness, only to discover a virus that turns hapless victims into bloodthirsty zombies.
Not bad for a zombie flick.
