The 5th Wave (2016)

What is your opinion?

I haven't heard of that.

It premiered to rave reviews back at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, but its original distributor quietly handed it back to its director after word got out about its lead actor committing domestic abuse.

It was released back in March of this year. It bombed.

I've been binge-watching the 80s/90s "dedicated teacher" movies (Stand and Deliver, Lean on Me, Dangerous Minds, etc).

It's funny how, in Lean on Me, Morgan Freeman's character was wielding a baseball bat, saying "you can call me Batman", then he was in the Christopher Nolan-era Batman movies (the Dark Knight trilogy).

It Feeds (2025)

Notting Hill. Starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, of course it is a chick flick. The script follows the standard formula of boy-meets-girl, they break up, and then they are married at the end of the movie. The original bit is that Hugh is a poor seller of arcane books in London. Julia is a rich movie star. She gives up being a movie star to be his tradwife. There, now you don't have to see it.

^ Having watched it, the movie doesn’t suggest that Roberts’ character becomes a “tradwife.” A mother, yes. I seem to recall the couple attending a premiere in the last minute or so of the film which suggests that she kept her career after marrying, perhaps focusing on more appealing roles, as in Henry James, or stage work.

Documentary about a bizarre incident that had occurred in 1950's Wet Virginia, in which a mother and a collection of kids of varying ages claimed to have encountered an otherworldly being.

Undefeatable (1993)

This is a film starring Cynthia Rothrock. She is a martial arts expert. She was World Champion in forms and weapons five times between 1981 and 1985.

Despite Mike, Kevin, and Bill's riffs, I think they have a respect for her. I enjoy her films, even without riffing.

The movie is about an abusive guy whose wife leaves him, and he then begins killing any woman he sees with long hair like she had. He collects their eyes and stores them in a fish tank. He is a brutal merciless expert in martial art.

Cynthia plays a waitress who fights an underground group of martial arts punks. She wears a leather jacket with a chain draped of the shoulder, and wristbands with metal spikes. So you know she is tough.
Highlights:
She is arrested after humiliating a guy in a match. She is set free when the detective has a feeling about her, after her respectable sister talks to Mr. Detective.
Crazy Killer later kills Cynthia's movie sister. Now it is more than personal.

Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace

Starring the acting talent of Christopher Lee as Sherlock!
This was a German film, and everyone was dubbed in, including Christopher Lee. Sherlock did not have that distinctive deep Christopher Lee voice. He sound more like Peter Cushing.

Also in the film was Leon Askin. I recognized him, but had to look up his name. He played General Burkhalter on Hogan's Heroes.

Another good Science Fiction thriller in the The Chronicles of Riddick franchise.

More of the same.

We will want to see Riddick: Furya when it comes out.

Mon Mon Mon Monsters (2017)

A film made in Taiwan about two sister who are demons. One is captured and tortured by a group of kids, one who is a cruel sociopath.

Excellent story and horror film.
