Last night we watched:

The Littlest Hobo [1958]
<=>"A hero with REAL HAIR on his chest...and a doll who's a L'IL LAMB!"

The Littlest Hobo is a German Shepherd ("London") who lives an independent life as a hobo. He catches rides on freight trains and has adventures where he does good deeds. Some of you may recognize him from his [1979–1985] TV show but that was not where he started and it was that not where I first saw him. Before that was his [1963–1965] TV show which is where I first saw him...but it turns out that is not where he started, either. His first appearance was in this 1958 movie...where he was the hero...where he rescues a lamb from a slaughter yard.

If you are interested in a feel-good movie then you might want to try this one.

P.S. The dog has no super powers, though he seems quite bright. We just watch him do good.

The Curse of the Cat People (1944)

This was a film I was very disappointed in when I was a young teen and it was on the Creature Feature. Over the years I've really come to enjoy it it

Last night we watched:

Flow [2024]

No dialog. No humans...though there are buildings and boats left behind by humans.
No question that the film is wonderful (2025 Oscar for best animated feature film plus other awards).
And it is entertaining that my bride and I both purchased copies with the intent of pleasantly surprising the other.
And we were both very pleasantly entertained.

After which we watched a short film:

Hardware Wars [1978]
<=>"You'll laugh! You'll cry! You'll kiss three bucks goodbye!"

BOTH are RECOMMENDED!

Casualties of War (1989)

A very powerful Vietnam War movie. I recommend it.

I often watch Horrible Histories clips on youtube. I love learning about history and they do it in a funny and entertaining way.

Tormented (1960)

I've seen this movie so many times. I've seen it riffed (Mystery Science Theater 3000 and RiffTrax) and without riffs.
It's Real Good TV has a relatively new channel called Creature Features as part of retro tv. It features films shown on Off Beat Cinema.

Basic story: Tom, a jazz pianist, it going to marry a young socialite, Meg. Before the wedding, a woman name Vi visits him. She was his former girl friend. She makes it sound like he left her for Meg's money and future inheritance. Vi dies, and her ghost haunts Tom and the upcoming wedding.

This is the first time I've watched the movie and thought there isn't any ambiguity about it. Jazz musician Tom Stewart is a nice guy, but he is a crumb. I wish Meg's name was Lisa.

Suddenly (1954)

I think it is a solid 1950s drama starring Frank Sinatra as a would be presidential assassin. In the movie, he was awarded the Silver Star. If one in inclined to do so, one could make a drinking game out of how many times he mentions it.

Like Tormented, I've seen this movie several times as well. I think it was on Turner Classic Movies in the 1990s. I remember them telling the story that after President Kennedy was assassinated, Frank Sinatra had the film withdrawn from circulation.

IMDB Trivia wrote:
Contrary to popular belief, this film was not withdrawn from circulation at Frank Sinatra's behest, as he had no say in the matter. His own family has gone to great lengths through the years to dispel this rumor.
:? :|

Aired on Off Beat Cinema.
The episode was recorded in a bookshop with actual people (not crew) held... hostage?
Bird finds the definition of the offbeat in the dictionary and reads it.

offbeat adjective
off·beat ˈȯf-ˈbēt

: different from the ordinary, usual, or expected in usually an appealing way : eccentric, unconventional

Well. I'm in a talkative mood today.
