Iron lung, I hadn't heard of it until I was due to see it, I was going to see my friends primarily. Wasn't massively into it, found it a bit boring and bewildering and I don't think I'm the intended audience. I'm not a gamer.

Last night we watched:

Forbidden Planet [1956]
<=>"One Of The Greatest Sci-Fi Masterpieces Of All Time!" A tagline that is very true!

Last night we watched:

The Invisible Boy [1957]
<=>"See Timmie and his friend Robby the Robot combat the Super Computer"

Called the "sequel" to Forbidden Planet. There is a reason I put "sequel" in quotes...it is barely a sequel. What the two movies have in common is Robby the Robot who finished Forbidden Planet incredibly far from Earth and in the distant future. This movie has Robby His second acting gig! and is set on Earth in 1957. Apparently, something unexplained happened after Forbidden Planet that moved Robby to Earth in 1957...setting the stage for this movie.

In this movie Earth has an impressive supercomputer who controls Robby for us and who wants to control us also.

Then this movie happens...

This movie is Science Fiction but not hard Science Fiction. (Though I guess in 1957 they did not yet have clear pictures about what supercomputers and robots would be like.) The movie is rated G. I thought the movie was OK; my bride liked it.

Keep your expectations reasonable and you might possibly enjoy this movie too.

The Cape Town Affair (1967)

A not very thrilling espionage and crime related thriller set in South Africa, starring James Brolin and Jacqueline Bisset. Seriously, even though I've posted the YouTube video for reference purposes, you just shouldn't bother. Boring characters, lifeless plot and dialogue, uninspired cinematography despite the location, this got a rating of just over 4/10 from IMDB posters, but for me it's worth about half of that.

Some YouTube posters go on about how 'hot' Jacqueline Bisset is in this, but I couldn't see it at all - she looks quite unremarkable and she's smoking half the time, which doesn't help.

This had a strong B movie vibe to it with plenty of blood in it.

Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien gave great performances
underneath Sam Raimi's direction.

Drowning Mona (2000)
on Tubi Tv

This film had an all star cast
Danny DeVito, Bette Midler, Neve Campbell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Casey Affleck, William Fichtner, Will Ferrell.

This is a murder mystery in a small country town.
Danny DeVito is great as the town sheriff.
Bette Midler is great as the crazy harpy mom everyone in the town does not care for. She is also the body, the murder victim.
This is a wacky movie.
Will Ferrell is not a major player in the film, but he is very weird.

Save Yourself! (2020)

IMDB wrote:
A young Brooklyn couple head to an upstate cabin to unplug from their phones and reconnect with each other. Blissfully unaware of their surroundings, they are left to their own devices as the planet falls under attack.
A humorous, tense story. Nothing flashy, low budget, but well made, in my opinion.

Last night we watched:

This Island Earth [1955]
<=>"Two mortals trapped in outer space...
<=>"Two mortals challenging the unearthly furies of an outlaw planet gone mad!"

Good 1950s Science Fiction movie. Perhaps not in the top-ten but still highly regarded.

Trivia: We've watched some of Orangey's films before.

F1 The Movie (2025)

IMDB Storyline wrote:
Dubbed "the greatest that never was," Sonny Hayes was FORMULA 1's most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he's a nomadic racer-for-hire when he's approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes, owner of a struggling FORMULA 1 team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to FORMULA 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He'll drive alongside Joshua Pearce, the team's hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny's past catches up with him and he finds that in FORMULA 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition--and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone

My favorite race film to date is Rush, Ron Howard's film about Niki Lauda and James Hunt.
This was an interesting alternate universe type take on the 2024 season.
Of course being an U.S. made Sports film, with men and women, there has to be a romantic interest between Brad Pitt and the Kerry Condon, who plays F1's first female car designer. I knew that was in the cards as soon as they had a shot of her, noticing him, followed by a shot of him, noticing her. Fortunately, it does not take over the plot of the film. So, I enjoyed it.

Last night we watched:

Tank Girl [1995]
<=>"In 2033, justice rides a tank and wears lip gloss"

My bride and I agreed that movie is weird and insane...and that we enjoyed it!

I hesitate to recommend it, though. It might be more weirdness and insanity than you can handle!

Dracula (1931)
Director: Tod Browning
Starring: Bela Lugosi, Edward Van Sloan, Dwight Frye

This screening took place on Svengoolie on the 91st anniversary, to the date and day, of the original showing of the film.

This date/day line up happened in 1942, 1948, 1953, 1959, 1970, 1976, 1981, 1987, 1998, 2004, 2009, 2015, 2026, and the next time will be in 2032.

The original release had music in two spots, the opening credits, and when the Count visits the theater. Philip Glass composed a score in 1999.
IMDB Trivia wrote:
A version of the film played on the 10/24/15 airing of Svengoolie (1995) featured a soundtrack taken from the French language audio track on the Dracula Blu-ray.

Before the film started, Sven announced this was the same version as he showed in 2015. The music fit the film. It elevated the mood.

Wuthering Heights (2026)

I saw it this weekend and really, really enjoyed it. Very beautifully made but also so tragic and heartbreaking.
