My wife and I just watched Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark. Now, I had seen the original version as a kid when it had played as a made for TV, and it scared the living poop out of me. The remake had had a lot of scares, but it was also made to be unnecessarily complicated, while the original had had a more straight forward story. Still, a very good horror film.

To me, it seems as though Gary Oldman is one of the most
underrated actors working today. He is awesome in this movie.

Does he play George Smiley?

Yes he does.

Well, after watching the remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, I ended up watching the 1972 version on Youtube, which had so scared the poop out of me as a kid. Well, to my surprise, I soon discovered that the original was maybe the least scary horror film I've seen! Beside that, the story was too minimal, and the dialogue was nothing short of terrible. In the original version, Sally is a grown woman, rather than a child, but her insistence to her husband that there was something evil in the basement fell on deaf ears, as her considered he to be just an overly imaginative woman. How times have changed since the early seventies!

The Debt

I liked the movie but think they played the ending too safe.

*spoiler* - if she would have lied and pretended to be the niece, told the reporter that she was related and that the uncle was crazy, and then gone in and bribed the guy a few hundred thousand to keep his mouth shut - the corruption would have made a much more beautiful loop and closure (plus much better controversy than the black and white ending given).

I watched Tropic Thunder a few days ago. I thought it was really funny, especially Robert Downey Jnr's character. It's not often that I watch anything so silly, but I usually enjoy anything that Ben Stiller is in.

We don't go to the cinema that often these days. When we do, it's usually a Saturday am kids' film. The last one was Tintin in 3D, which we all enjoyed.

Yesterday, I saw with my date The Adventures of Tin-Tin.

The 3D was really good on this one, IMOO,
and Andy Serkis was hilarious as Capt. Haddock.

For some odd reason, I thought Daniel Craig
played Capt. Haddock and Andy Serkis played
Sakharine; for those who haven't seen this,
it's the other way around.

The stereotyping of the Scottish Captain Haddock was a little bit of a cliche for me, but it's the only thing I could fault with the movie. I especially enjoyed that 'roller-coaster' ride down the hill in Tangier.

The Lake House

thought it was amazing and lovely. but can't decide whether or not it would've made a better movie if the ending had been opposite. anyone else seen it and have any thoughts?

I love that one too. If the ending had been different, I would have been really sad.

I watched Rango last night after a colleague recommended it as a really funny film, it was ok, had a couple of good moments.

Now watching Cowboys and Aliens, which was massacred by the critics, so going in with no expectations, it ok so far.

Last night, my wife and I watched The Guard, starring Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. It's a black comedy of Gleeson as a racist, thieving, drug using, lying, whoring Irish cop who has the chance to do the right thing. Very much recommended. In fact, I'd say it's perhaps one of the very best movies I've seen in recent memory.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (I'll watch the third soon).
I hadn't watched it before because I thought it was boring. Then I started reading The Hobbit and I loved it. I watched the first two and loved them too. :)
