I remember enjoying the remake, but it's been over a decade, which was a lifetime ago for me. I was born in 1983, and the remake came out in 1998, which was 14 years ago. Yeow! I feel old.
Have you seen The American Friend? Just curious. I love it. It's based on one of the novels in the Talented Mr. Ripley series, but it's much better than the Matt Damon movie.

I'm afraid I haven't seen The American Friend, or The Talented Mr Ripley, but I ahould like to.

You might also want to watch "Paris, Texas" While it is quite different from either "The American Friend" or "Wings of Desire" I think it is Wender's best film.

Paris, Texas is a great movie! Goes to show you how a character actor like Harry Dean Stanton can carry a film as a leading man. I've said it before, I'll say it again; the scene where Stanton is in the peep show, telling his now stripper ex why he had left her years before, is golden.

Haven't watched this in awhile. I saw that someone uploaded it to YouTube and couldn't resist.
It's pretty terrific, even though the ending is a cop-out.
