I have a lot of respect for 2001. I think- from a technical standpoint- it's one of the best films I've ever seen. This is due to the atmosphere, the way it slowly tightens its grip on the audience, and the ideas that are presented, even if they're ambiguous. It's definitely not on my top ten list of favourites, because it's not one of those films you can throw on when you need a little entertainment. It's more of an artistic experience that swallows you whole, if you let it. The story's not there, the emotion's not there, the ending's baffling, and that's all deliberate. I don't think I understand it and I don't think I ever will. But I do think it's brilliant.
I really do agree with you! It isn't just a movie where you just have to just fallow the plot. I don't really think that it is the whole point of the movie. The point of the movie is just to make you feel like you are on a little space ship or something like that. It also takes you on a little trip.
