Spock. Spock is warm blooded.

ruveyn

data may be warm bodied

Data is not organic. He does not have blood to circulate nutrients to his body parts. He might have liquid coolant or liquid lubrication though.

ruveyn
and that relates to what i said how?

What you said implied Data might have blood. But he doesn't. He is a pure artificial creature and not the least bit organic.

Because round ears are pointless.

Actually, all shapes have a near infinitude of points, however round ears do not have pronounced vertices.

Data is a robot and very smart like the doctor from the other series.

My question is this: If they can make robots or computer programs so smart then why isn't the ship itself run by an artificial intelligence?

Humans are slow. The captain says "raise shields" or "fire phasers". Then some human types the orders into a keyboard.

If the ship itself was a "person" then it would react and defend itself far faster than humans could do.

I have been pondering that question for a long time now. I guess it would just ruin the plot. OTOH another Rodenberry product, Andromeda does feature an intelligent ship.

The real truth is of course with true future AI humans would become rather meaningless. They would be nothing more than 'carbon units'

Oh, and of course I prefer Spock. Although at times he is getting a little too human for my liking.

they problly do. but they problly wouldnt be show worthy, ai that lets it avoid dangerouse situations, seek out interesting ones, send back data, move on. not much of a show

Spock - he's more complex.

Data is charming, but he's kind of an adult's version of Pinnochio.

what's wrong with having an A.I. run a ship? please.....read dan simmon's hyperion series. the answer will emerge.

data, based on my criteria......he had a cat.

spock was cooler, though.
