They haven't pointed it out yet but I can see characteristics already in how they're writing the mom.

I am so, so glad I'm not alone in disliking the parents' reaction. I never watched an episode before because it looked poorly written and my classmates generally did not speak highly of it (in classes about writing for television, so I had some faith in their opinions). I found my parents watching it shortly after I was diagnosed, and I stayed for the scene where they told their son he has Asperger's... while they break down sobbing.

I know it hasn't been easy for my parents, but they haven't broken down sobbing like that, thankfully. I can't imagine how awful it would be to be a child in that position. "We love you but we hate that you're slightly different! We are so miserable because of this!"

And it aaall could have been made better if they didn't portray it as the right response. It's not a death sentence, for god's sake!
