Why can't actors just keep their mouths shut in these cases?

Why? Because people fawn over them, the media reports everything they do as if it is as important if not more important then what world leaders do. Why would they not think their political rantings would not change the world?

Oh okay, but if there is no such thing as bad publicity, how come Mel Gibson hardly had any acting roles after his controversy then?
Maybe because he is too busy with directing, producing, and writing.

It seems to be the ambition of most actors to do those things instead -- to be in charge and tell other people what to do, or to simply back a production and reap the profits.

There is more to Hollywood than just acting.

After today’s edict by our twit in Chief, free speach is now dead and buried (and yes, the misspelling is intentional. Speach refers to a diatribe had decades ago on Usenet.)

The twit in Chief is promoting his own form of what George Orwell termed newspeak in his book 1984.

Is it because actors have to be talking about politics on social media in order to get more roles?
Yes.
No, that is wrong beyond measure.
Do you mean "Wrong" as in "Bad, Evil, and Nasty"?  Or do you mean "Wrong" as in "Incorrect"?

As I've posted before, any publicity (that doesn't get you arrested, of course) is good publicity.  Keeping your name in the minds of the public, movie critics, and casting directors almost assures that you will get an offer.

Maybe but that isn't why they speak up. They speak up because what they talk about, they feel is true for them whether it is one of the stupidest things ever said or not though Mr. Wig will top them all.

Hardly.  His little 'edict' only prompts the U.S. government to spend taxpayers' money on investigations by three different agencies and both sides of Congress.  By the time a final decision is made, our Demander In Chief will likely have been forced out of office by the voters, a stroke, or a severe heart attack.

That much, we agree on.

Well I know there is free speech, and you can say whatever you want, but I guess I figure, why bother, if people are just going to judge you for it, and it creates controversy. But yet people are so proud of being able to exercise their free speech right even so.

It's like saying that just because it's legal to eat whatever you want, I'm going to go eat a 50 hot dogs just because I can. Just because it's legal, doesn't mean you should go overboard with it, if that makes sense.

No, no it doesn't, you still don't get it. It has nothing to do with being judged.
