I just assume everything on TV is bad for kids, except for perhaps PBS... I watched a ton of Sesame Street growing up and I think it helped me learn quickly.

Mostly because of the advertising focus of TV... I don't think that's good for young minds.

With the proliferation of DVDs... I think it's easy for parents to get a bunch of programming that they can enjoy and approve of... instead of relying on TV.

Man... I told myself I wasn't going to become a TV snob when I stopped watching cable/broadcast TV... that didn't happen... :P

I gave up TV completely, not because I wanted to but because I have no cable in my room.

I would say that most shows on adult swim are awful. They are hardly funny, sometimes even dehumanizing.

Yes Hanna Montana is an accomplished actor. One of the best

The quality doesn't matter. The point is that the actor is not the character unless they're specifically playing themselves, and even then it's a fictional version of themselves. What an actor does should no more reflect on the character than the character should reflect on the actor. Hell, the ability to seperate actor from character is pretty much the only reason anyone goes to see Tom Cruise movies any more.

Hey! I for one like him because I didn't believe someone like me could become president until he became president.

I've watched Hanna Montana with my daughter and there is nothing in it that could even remotely impart the concept of pole dancing to anyone. It is one of the few non-animated shows on Disney I approve of for my daughter.
The child in question obviously got the pole dancing concept from somewhere else and simply used an available female doll to act it out. It could have just as easily have been a Barbie, could it not?

The Disney Channel in general is a bad influence.
It's a lean, mean brain-washing machine!

Mainly the fact that after watching Hannah montana and getting the singing doll and all of the different stuff my cousin has started to imitate pole dancing o_0;;

So yes, I have proof that it is a bad influence for children. Y'know, aside from the fact that Miley Cyrus has all those photos on the web.

Anyway, my question is what cartoons or child programmes have you seen that have been an obvious bad influence to a child/children that you know?

Hannah Montana is gonna end up with fifty million kids and five thousand drug addictions. That'd be a good eppy - HM goes to rehab

The show sucks but that doesn't mean she is a bad influence.

I could think of at least a dozen shows I watched as a kid that could have been termed "bad influence", but never actually were.

Honestly, adults are so ridiculously hysterical when it comes to kids' shows!!

That quote is irrelivent to this discussion.

I believe it IS relevant.

Whether or not it is taught as an excersize now, I do not believe that a 7 year old she imitate it. If an adult wants to do pole dancing I don't care.

well, if 7 year olds want to do pole dancing, I wouldn't care. Most shows and pop stuff for kids are crap anyway.

Heck, Britney Spears seems to have been a lot worse role model than that.

Is this the pole dancing discussed?

If so, that's just plain ridiculous.
