I've watched both episodes of Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san, and I can only point at the three-minute duration as its flaw. That feature forces the humor to tend toward gags, but the gags work for me. Somehow, it delivers most of the yuri that I'd missed since the end of Sakura Trick in those short episodes.

ETA: I just saw the official announcement of a second season of My Teen Rom-Com SNAFU. SWeeeeeeeeeeT!

Just finished Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 this morning and it's been one of the most emotive, can't-look-away anime I've seen in a long time. A truly excellent hidden gem.

I was recommended Miyori no Mori by a friend as it follows a similar slice-of-life/supernatural theme to Natsume Yuujinchou. Rather encouragingly, the art director is veteran Studio Ghibli artist, Nizo Yamamoto (also behind the art of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Fullmetal Alchemist and The Diary of Anne Frank) so I bet it'll be a visual treat to look forward to.

I have an old friend visiting this week, and he asked me to show him some anime. We're watching all of Madoka Magica, a few episodes each of Bakemonogatari and Mysterious Girlfriend X, and a smattering of other stuff. Being a geek means loving to share your interests!

A friend recommended I try out xxxHolic since I enjoyed Natsume Yuujinchou. I don't know whether I like xxxHolic after 4 episodes... There are elements that really work, like the symbolism and examination of mythology and spiritualism, I like that about Yuuko. But the attempts at comedy and that opening song... oh dear...

Then again in xxxHolic's defense, I did try the first three episodes out in its native Japanese and I found myself getting a headache from Jun Fukuyama (Watanuki) and Mika Kuchichi's (that weird mascot thing) near-constant yelling. But after trying out episodes 4 and 5 in English, I found Todd Haberkorn, Colleen Clinkenbeard and company much easier on the ears, and the story seemed to flow better; bad fansubbing, I guess gave me a bad impression. And I guess I made the mistake of thinking xxxHolic would be a serious project, but it seems to be more like Mushi-shi if it were aimed at a younger audience. Not bad so I'll keep watching - I'm just glad they started fleshing out Watanuki and made him more likeable a protagonist than say, A Certain Magical Index's Touma, or Sword Art Online's Kirito.

The xxxHolic manga has more depth, but you'll want to read it in parallel with Tsubasa, so it's kind of a big commitment. TheTsubasa manga is completely different from the anime, in that the anime only follows the cute first half of the story. At the point where the anime ends, the manga gets seriously dark and complicated.

Let's just say my experience with Tsubasa led me to believe you have to be a member of the CLAMP fan club to understand it thoroughly and therefore enjoy it. Great one for veteran CLAMP fans, or those interested in the CLAMP multiverse per se... but for a newcomer like myself, far too alienating. Shame.

A necessary but perhaps not sufficient condition. I like CLAMP a lot, and I didn't understand quite a bit of it.

That kind of depends on what you liked about it, but right off the top of my head I thought of Ergo Proxy and Serial Experiments Lain. The former has more action, and the latter has more surreal elements.

liking ghost in the shell would lead me to believe you might like Steins Gate. It's a rather twisted yet light hearted yet f****d up time travel/parralel dimension travaling scientist group what death involves green goop and you never know what the hell's going on.

also, Gundam 00 is good. unlike what people expect, it involves politics, death and many moments of eat your heart out.

Watched the third episode of Escha and Logy, They have introduced some more of the girls, but they still have guys, and it is not like some sort of harem, they are managing the feel rather well, and some of the artwork looks really nice.

And for those who have not been following it, Blade & Soul looks like it might be a big ecchi show on the outside like Queens Blade, due to some artwork. But the show barely has any fanservice at all, especially as a focus, and is actually surprisingly good. Some emotional moments this week.

Ditto. Recently become addicted to Claymore, but also a huge fan of Ginga Densetsu Weed, Bleach, and Dragonball Z.

I just watched the first episode of Non Non Biyori, and I feel much more confident about maintaining a positive mental attitude during the next two weeks (dead week and finals week). If I watch one a day, it will work out so that I have one extra, in case of a particularly rough day. :D

Non Non Biyori is a seriously cute and sweet anime.

Watching From the New World (Shinsekai Yori) in English, but I don't think Chris Ayres is a very good ADR director -- some episodes made me wonder if he actually quality-checked the script/playback to make sure the dub voices fit in with the mouth flaps...

Still, the soundtrack and spikes in animation (unusual for A-1 Pictures, but at least they're not as wildly inconsistent as J.C. Staff) are DVD-worthy.

---

On a seperate note, with Sailor Moon Crystal, Toei have released artwork and who the vocal cast are...

Source: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... ystal-cast

I'm surprised but pleased that Kotono Mitsushi will remain as Usagi/Sailor Moon. The rest of the Sailor Senshi cast though... hmm... the jury's out on them.

They've all respectively worked on squeaky/baby-voiced characters in projects I tried but didn't really care for (Yondemasu Azazel-san; Sunday Without God; The Minami Volleyball Sisters Are Here!; Kill la Kill; Hayate the Combat Butler to name but a few). Still, the proper thing to do is reserve judgement till they perform; I'm just hoping they speak more naturally than putting on that irritating squeal that's so prevalant amongst young female anime characters these days (Fairy Tail's Luci comes to mind)...

The new art style will take a little getting used to as well; to me, it looks like a very well done fan-art more than anything official, but I suppose the 90s look Sailor Moon exhibited (as was the style at the time), had to give way to something slightly more modern. I commend them on at least trying to echo Naoko Takeuchi's original artwork for the manga. Regardless, my fingers are crossed that Sailor Moon Crystal will live up to everyone's expectations. Do your best, Toei!
