The East

Indie thriller about a rookie agent for a private intelligence firm who infiltrates an eco-terrorist group that carries out revenge plots against corporations who abuse the environment. The agent, as she fits in more with the group, begins to question her duties as her role in the group begins to grow.

Good movie, but the twists were obvious.

Probably The Great Gatsby and Renoir. I actually really liked "Gatsby," but I kind of wished that the soundtrack had included actual music from the time period (late 20's to early 30's/Jazz era) rather than rap and hip hop that was stylized to sound like Jazz era music (no offense to anyone who likes rap and hip hop). I did like Lana Del Ray's "Young and Beautiful" and Florence + the Machine's "Over the Love," though - those were good songs. :D

As for "Renoir," both my folks and I liked it to an extent, but we felt like it moved at a pretty slow pace, and that the character of Andree Heuschling was kind of petulant and full of herself...a bit hard to like. I also don't want to give spoilers, but we also felt that the movie also didn't go into enough detail about Andree's relationship with Jean Renoir post-film. On the other hand, as I watched, I had a feeling that the soundtrack had a familiar music style to it, and when I saw the credits, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the music had been orchestrated by Alexandre Desplat, the same guy who did the music for another movie I like: Moonrise Kingdom. Afterwards, I was like, "I KNEW the music sounded familiar!" :)

I enjoyed it very much. Michael Shannon was awesome as Zod.

Magic Mike (2012)

Decent movie about male strippers. I thought I was going to hate it when I saw that it was directed by Steven Soderbergh, but this was better than his typical pretentious crap.

Dark Shadows

Tim Burton's horror comedy based on the mid 60's to early 70's soap opera which stars Johnny Depp as a 200 year old vampire whom rises from his grave in modern day 1972. He returns to his family mansion, which is home to his dysfunctional descendants and discovers his ex lover (Eva Green) has taken control of the family fishing business and was ultimately responsible for his curse, since she is secretly a witch.

Despite Depp and Green stealing the show and a cast that boasts Michelle Pfeiffer's reclusive matriach, Chloe Grace Moretz's rebellious teenager, Jackie Earl Haley's drunk caretaker, and Helena Bonham Carter's psychiatrist, this falls very flat. Recommended for Depp fans only.

Finally saw Lincoln as it came out on video... I think I might need to revise my top 10.

Damn... Daniel Day-Lewis isn't an actor... he's a shape-shifter... Try watching Gangs of New York and then Lincoln.

And casting Jackie Earle Haley as Alexander "Cornerstone" Stephens was an act of brilliance. I mean, just *look* at him:

The casting for Lincoln was pretty spectacular - as if the actors were born to play the historical characters they portrayed.

Monsters University in 3D

I do agree with many Pixar fans. Pixar is sadly starting to run out of original ideas and this latest from Pixar is indeed nothing original.

However, Monsters University was a goofy, funny movie to watch. Though it was another "Nerds VS Jocks" college movie, I enjoyed watching Monsters University.

Highly recommended.
