From Earth To The Moon.

Genuine stinker from 1958, based on the Jules Verne novel. Joseph Cotton gives such a listless performance that one has to think he was embarrassed that an actor of his caliber was stuck doing this piece of crap. So slow moving and uneventful, it barely deserves the name science fiction.

I saw Latitude Zero at a drive-in when I was about four or five. At that age, I thought it was about the coolest thing I had ever seen. I have no doubt today I'd have a far different take on it.

Airplane II: The Sequel (1982)

Hugely underrated. Picked this up on a double feature DVD with the first movie. I had seen it before, but not since I was a kid, and never uncensored. It's a lot funnier than most people would have you believe.

Damn... Daniel Day-Lewis isn't an actor... he's a shape-shifter... Try watching Gangs of New York and then Lincoln.

And casting Jackie Earle Haley as Alexander "Cornerstone" Stephens was an act of brilliance. I mean, just *look* at him:

I agree.

The Purge

I was pretty excited after the trailer, but the movie itself wasn't as novel as I was hoping. I guess it wasn't that bad; props for some of the ideas.

Pearl Harbor

Micheal Bay's 2001 film showing a couple of childhood friends who become pilots and both fall in love with the same woman during Imperial Japan's highly successful attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 and the Doolittle raid against the Japanese that followed after. It attempts to be the Titanic for War movies, but does not follow through on that front. However, the actions sequences are well done.

I've recently seen Man of Steel and Warm Bodies. Both very good and entertaining.

Saw Man Of Steel a few days ago. Not perfect, but quite good none-the-less.

Robin Hood (1922)

I'm not one of those people who go looking for gay subtext in movies, but it's kind of hard to ignore in Robin Hood. The opening scenes here are pretty hilarious, with a rather foppish Robin running away in absolute terror from every woman he sees. He just wants to get away from these horrible women and go join a bunch of men in the Crusades, right after kissing the phallic sword that represents his devotion to his king.

And then, a few scenes later, he's sniffing Maid Marian's clothes like a pervert. Who knew?

It's not a bad movie at all, but it's way too long. I've never seen a silent film that needed to be longer than 80 minutes, and this one is 143. That's three minutes longer than the Russell Crowe version, and at least that movie had the excuse of having a much more intricate plot. I had to watch this behemoth of a movie in small bursts over four days, like episodes of a TV show. It's just too goddamned much.

Monster's University. Very good film, has very realistic characters in particular Sulley and Mike's rivalry turned friendship.
