What films are overrated, in your opinion?

mh it's a bit hard to discribe, but to me he was too much of a freaked out psychopath rather than a cruel and ironic badass.

Pirates of The Caribbean: saw the original, it was alright but nothing special in my opinion. I quickly lost interest after the sequel and have not seen the later releases. Needs more action and violence from the cutthroats as they truly were in that era.

Signs: one of the most BORING movies I have ever seen. It was supposed to be a horror film?

No Country for Old Men: I only remember the villain's custom-made weapon along with a few of its victims in the movie.

That is all I can ponder for the moment as I have not watched too many of the recent releases over the past few years.

I think all Disney animated movies are very overrated. They pretty much take classic fairy tales and butcher them up so that they are kid-friendly by American standards, and some people think they are experts on these Fairy Tales just because they watch Disney. Not to mention the fact that most Disney films are incrediably sexist. I mean the "good" females are these helpless little barbie doll princesses who rely on a strong handsome prince to rescue them, and the "evil" females are the ugly queens and witches who actually have power and aren't relying on a man to get what they want. Of course now Disney is trying to change that for the sake of political correctness.

Psycho. I realize that it must have shocked people at the time and it has been copied so many times that it has lost most of its originality, but Hitchcock did several films that were much better.

I've seen a lot of very popular movies that I disliked, but these are the ones I can recall for the moment:

The Dark Knight: Heath Ledger's acting was the most atrocious I've ever seen in a movie. Give me the Joker from the 90's Batman cartoon any day over his pitiful and joyless attempt to recreate the character.

Precious: So blatantly racist that it won the position of My Most Hated Movie Ever. Mo'Nique's character is nothing more than a living embodiment of almost every racist caricature of African-American women out there, and I did not like how Precious's eventual saviors were biracial-looking (because that's just what we need, another patronizing pseudo-liberal piece of propaganda about light-skinned people rescuing poor dark-skinned people from themselves).

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: I could barely sit through any one of these. I probably would have liked them more had they been split into shorter films, but even then, Gollum was the only character in the whole mess I felt any sympathy for, and the movies don't give him a chance to redeem himself.

The Passion of the Christ: Who wants to see Jesus getting brutally beaten up as a whole movie?

WALL-E: You're supposed to think the anthropomorphized robots are adorable, but I found them obnoxious because I don't think humans would waste precious resources programming resources into machines that are supposed to be our tireless workers who don't complain about their predicament and are therefore preferable to human employees. I also don't think people are going to be all comically obese in the future; if they can build spaceships by then, surely they could develop cheap liposuction as well.

The Hangover: Why is this regarded as comedic gold? I very rarely laughed through the whole of it.

I totally agree. I also hated:

Twilight Series(not the Twilight Zone TV Series)
Disney's Animated Crap(I also dislike walt disney, a lot)
Dr Dolittle(humour was terrible in it)
Any sports film excluding Remember The Titans(I dont dislike it but I dont like it a lot)

Wow, really? The Joker was the only good thing about that sh***y movie.

I wouldn't call his acting pitiful and joyless at all.

Disney films. People are so enamored of their childhood nostalgia that they fail to realize how insignificant most of those movies are. I feel the same way about most Pixar films, actually, although I'm biased due to my dislike of CGI.

I DO like "The Jungle Book," though.

The Town was also vastly overrated.

I felt Taxi Driver was overrated. I was told it was really good but it wasn't particularly enjoyable.

In regards to the Joker in The Dark Knight, I thought Ledger did a great job with an incredibly poorly written character. We get speech after speech after speech about how the Joker is an agent of chaos and a man without a plan, and yet everything he does relies on the most ludicrously detailed and elaborate plans outside a Saw movie. The constant pretentious speeches in the Nolan Batman films wouldn't bother me half as much as they do if they made any sense at all. "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you." What utter horses**t.

I fully agree with you on Star Wars. I think the franchise is completely over-rated, and the fans actually ruin it even more for me.


Also the Godfather. Yes, it was good, but I didn't think it was the greatest thing I've ever seen in any way.

The Lost Boys: there were two good actors in the whole film, Kiefer Sutherland and Barnard Hughes; that was it.

Scott Pilgrim Vs the World: it's a case where I can see the prototype of what Hollywood is trying to work out to appeal to my growing-up generation, but they have more work to do. Look, the majority of the Godfather cast was very amateurish, but at least they had a legendary actor holding the thing down. Scott Pilgrim had Michael Cera; the kid is way too inexperienced yet, and it really showed...and hard.

Casablanca.

Harold and Kumar films. They're not the least bit funny to me, they disgust me and I find them disturbing on so many levels.
