Hey, are there any other anime-geeks out there? I love watching anime. My current favorites are "Neon Genesis Evangelion," "Serial Experiments Lain," and "Haibane Renmei." Has anyone seen any of these?

^_^ YES! I have seen all three series though I couldn't really get into NGE that much.. I got the first three volumes but then it just started to lag for me and couldn't keep my attention. Now I adore Serial Experiments Lain and Haibane Renmei. I have to say the way Haibane Renmei turns out in the end was a real surprise for me (I won't say to much so I don't give away spoilers). I didn't get Lain the first time I saw it but it made more sense the second time though there's still some issues I speculate about and try to analyze. I would really love to ask the creator what the meaning behind some of the stuff in Lain was, like her bear suit. Going with the technological theme of Lain, have you seen .Hack//SIGN? I'm rewatching my copy of the series right now.

The only familiarity I happen to have with anime would be two films directed by Hayao Miyazaki (One of which is Princess Mononoke, the other Nausicaa). I must say, I quite enjoyed both, although I intend to increase my familiarity with anime in general at some point in the near future.

I remember liking one that was out in the 80's. Robotech or "Macross" as it is otherwise called. Its an awesome series, I've recently downloaded some episodes along with Voltron! Voltron isn't really anime but it is a good old American cartoon that kicks butt.

I saw it when I was in Portland. I quite liked it, although I've never read the book.
Also, I know a lot of people here watch various anime, but do any of the people here happen to read manga? I've read 'Saiyuki', 'Rurouni Kenshin', and 'Nausicaa' (but've never seen the anime series based on the first two.)

Yes, I have seen 'Laputa', but I didn't like it as much as I did the others.

I think Voltron is anime or it could be a little bit of both because some of the people who worked on it are japanese and Macross is the japanese name robotech is the english one just so they don't confuse you even though they have different names they are the same thing

I think the mistake a lot of people make about anime is that it is not a genre, it is a medium.

Someone told me a really funny, but true quote, recently:

"Judging all anime by watching Pokemon is like judging all of American film by watching Muppets in Space."

the sad thing is that they do

I recently saw "Bleach" on a friend's computer. Right up my ally.

BTW, my friend is pretty close to being an Otaku.

Yes, I liked "Paranoia Agent" quite a bit.

And Nayashi, I love your avatar.

Random almost relevant comment: While we were watching "Paranoia Agent," my friend and I decided that Tsukiko Sagi is like a grown-up version of Osaka :P .
