Now I just need to see if Blockbuster has anime...

Some of my local video stores have dedicated anime sections, and some of them are Blockbuster. Some are Video Ezy.

YEAH! Hellsing and Trinity Blood are excellent series which have vampires in them!

If it doesn't have anime, give them a list.

Especially where you live, you probably represent a high percentage of their clientèle.

I only rent games from Blockbuster.

Anime is a medium, not a genre, so saying "I like/hate anime" is almost as meaningless as saying "I like/hate American TV". That said, I like *some* anime. I enjoyed some of the quirkier series like Paranoia Agent and Death Note, and I'm a sucker for sci-fi in any medium, although I could do without all the giant robots...

In response to the original post that started this thread...my guess as to why anime is so like-able is because, the Japanese are VERY soulful people. Unlike American cartoons, they're not afraid to get down to the nitty-gritty and show 'bad' things happening. I mean, GOD FORBID any American cartoon series would show good guys getting dead!

I first realized this with my first ever exposure to an anime film on the Disney channel when I was about 11 years old. It was Osamu Tezuka's "Unico". I couldn't explain it then, but somehow, I *knew* what I was seeing was unique, because this had themes that would be considered too dark for other 'friendlier' looking cartoons on regular TV. I guess I've had that since I was even 7 years old, in that I've always been fascinated by the darker side of human nature...

But anyway, I like to think that most other people like anime for the same reason I do: an escape to something more darker, cuter, or intense then anything that America tries to feed us. Hell, even NON-anime fans love the movie 'Akira' for both it's extreme, over-the-edge animation style, storytelling and voice acting.

You definitely have a point there, Gavin. But those were feature length cartoons meant for theater going; Walt Disney was a real pioneer for his time, in that he wasn't afraid to have the theme of death in his stories. My 'heartless bstad' comment was aimed more at cartoons you might see on CBS, ABC, FOX and WB.

my question for you guys is have u every cried during anime? if so which one made u cry?
for me it was during Full Metal Alchemist, the funeral scene for Hughes.

I like Cowboy Bebop, Ghist in the shell, Akira, Hayao Miyazaki stuff. What i hate is when they make an anime series about a stupid toy like spinning tops, how pathetic.

I'm way picky about anime. I like Full Metal Alchemist a lot. Just a great storyline.

I'm going to try watching Death Note sometime.

Also, Likho got me into Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, which is called "When They Cry" in the states but everyone just calls it Higurashi. XD I think that one's way awesome now, though I was hesitant at first because I'd read it had a lot of really disturbing violence...and it does, but it's so good that I don't mind, I still love it. It's funny, the characters are great, the story's great (though the odd structure to the narrative can take some getting used to for some)...it's just a lovely anime.

Do it! Death Note is awesome. Only series I've seen whose protagonist is basically the main villain. Even Dexter pales in comparison (they portray Dexter in a way more sympathetic light than Yagami Light).

Death Note is a great series. I was kind of rooting for both Light and L, so I was kind of sad at the end when one of them beat the other. (Of course I'm not saying who wins in the end :p)

I have read the manga so i already know how it ends. but i want to watch the anime due to the manga's awesomeness.
