3. John Nash from A Beautiful Mind (I know he's a real person too)
They diagnose him with schizophrenia, but I think he has aspergers too. He avoids eye contact a lot. I think the scene in the bar with the girl is a perfect example of awareness but disregard and lack of understanding of social rules.

A lot of the symptoms of schizophrenia overlap with ASD.

I did wonder that, so I did a quick google, but I didn't see anything on the first couple pages that looked relevant so I put it anyway. The person I know with schizophrenia doesn't seem ASD at all to me, but I understand that everyone's different. Thanks for the info

deadpool could be considered a possible candidate for an autistic, although i guess he's more ADD than anything. according to the marvel wiki, he seems to have echolalia(repeating certain phrases and words regularly) and is preoccupied with thoughts of bea arthur, ernest borgnine and the olsen twins. anyone who's read the deadpool comics please feel free to either agree with me or correct me

Marvin the Martian

A horrible, but strangely funny "evil genius" stereotype.
Likes to observe Earth Creatures and imprison them.
Talks in scientific jargon and technobabble.
Enjoys looking through his telescope and using machinery.
Thinks nothing of wanting to blow up the Earth.
He reasons logically.

His only friend seems to be his pet guard dog.

He is emotionally very calm and says "I'm very very angry indeed." with a very flat robotic tone of voice.
The viewer can't see or read his facial expressions at all (his face is entirely black with only his eyes showing). His manner of dress is very eccentric: he looks like a cross between a Roman Centurion and a basketball player.

I've enjoyed watching American cartoons, but I'm wondering: are Americans afraid of scientists and technology?

Where I come from, any scientists/inventors in animations are portrayed as benign, whimsical and not deliberately evil. Whereas, in America they are often portrayed as deranged and nasty.

Technological creativity and inventiveness are pathologised in "Toy Story".
Sid is shown to be evil as he takes things apart and puts them back together in new ways.
Ironic considering that the whole film is computer generated.

Perhaps these characters are inspired by the "Space Race" and disasters caused by technology.

i agree with sherlock and i guess i agree deadpool. he has aspie traits but he's more ADHD. i've always daria had a lot of aspie traits. she is socially awkward(although its not because she cant understand society its because she doesnt care), she speaks with a monotone, shows no expression, is really smart and doesn't play with the other kids as a child and as an adult has few friends and doesn't really identify with others. her childhood was identical to mine- remember that episode where shes hiding in a box and her parents are arguing about this?

Can't believe nobody mentioned him yet..

Wilson - Home Improvement

- Highly Intelligent
- Lives alone
- Problems maintaining eye contact
- Always has an active hobby/obsession

Wilson: [Starts playing the blues on harmonica]
Got out of my bed,
Got hit in the head,
Knocked out of my shoe,
I got the low down croquet ball blues.
Tim: Well... When did you learn how to play that harmonica?
Wilson: This morning.

How about Gary Boone who calls himself "Goone" in this book called "Dogs Don't Tell Jokes."? Goone keeps telling his lame jokes to all his classmates in junior high no matter how "dorky" they think he is and he has no other interests than reading joke books.

These might have been already said but:

Lisbeth Salander - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Forrest Gump - Forrest Gump lol.

Dr House - House.

Gil Grissom - CSI: Vegas.

and after mentioning the two above, yeah it's likely Sherlock has it too :)

I agree with the OP about Michelle from American Pie. She seems to be the very epitome of a person who suffers from Aspergers Syndrome because she has all the traits such as her monotone voice, her awkardness, and her obsession with Band Camp which she uses repeatedly in conversations. However unlike most real Aspies she seems to be more outgoing.

Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory also seems like a good example (I'm sure many people have already mentioned him). He has a very high IQ but very poor social skills and seems to lack common sense for a kid who's supposed to be a master scientist. He talks in a monotone voice and rambles on and on about science, and also tends to stay isolated in his secret lab and lashes out at his sister D.D. for disrupting his obsessive behavior. He also seems to lack empathy as he has no concerns for the effects his experiments have on his sister, parents, or other people.

okay, so this may be a bit of a stretch, but Sam from Glee. Here's why:

- loves comic books, star wars, avatar, and other nerdy things to an extreme
- is oblivious to a lot of unspoken social rules - for example, being unaware that singing a duet with a boy who is gay would make others assume that he is gay
- the impressions! (and his oblivion to the fact that his impressions don't turn on girls!)
- straightforward and honest, never uses sarcasm, responds to jokes against him quite literally
- obsessed with fitting in (perhaps formerly bullied?)
- his unassuming personality makes it easy for friends to manipulate him

Some suspect that Charles Schulz, who created the comic strip "Peanuts" in which these characters first appeared, had Asperger's.

Mr. Bean definitely seems like he has some type of autism.

Perhaps King George VI from The King's Speech.

Charlie Brown, Linus, and Schroeder perhaps as well.

SpongeBob

Dewey Wilkerson (Malcolm in the Middle)

Ian Kelley (Being Ian)

Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)

Spencer Reed (Criminal Minds)

Josh Nichols (Drake & Josh)

Wilson (Home Improvement)

Napoleon Dynamite, as well as his brother and Pedro

the bad guy in Despicable Me (I think his name's Vector or something like that)

the main character and his girlfriend from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

this cat doctor on an episode of Corner Gas

the babysitter in The Incredibles

Bubba (Forrest Gump)

the entire cast of Asperger's High
