Godzilla

Thanks to humanity's scientific arrogance, a pair of gigantic creatures called MUTOs threaten humanity. Not only that, but Godzilla appears, however, he may be the only thing that can stop the MUTOs. Godzilla himself has less screen time than the MUTOs.

Wer.

First rate, scary horror film starring AJ Cook as an expatriate American lawyer living in France who defends a gigantic rural man named Talan charged with the mutilation/murders of an American father and son. As the half devoured corpses had to have been killed by a huge animal, and the fact that Talan suffers from Prophyria (besides causing excessive body hair, it causes debilitating muscle weakness and joint pain), she thinks it's easily provable that he was not the perpetrator. But Talan has a terrible secret that his family had kept hidden for generations, when once revealed, proves him to be not only the murderer, but sets him off on a bloody killing spree. And worse, the lawyer's medical consultant, and former significant other, has been infected by Talan. A new telling of the werewolf legend, this time disposing with the supernatural explanation for a scientific one.

Coherence.

A supernatural comet makes parallel universes converge during a dinner party. If you liked Primer, and, Cabin in the Woods, then you're probably the sort of person who will like this.

Gamera vs. Barugon (1966)

Image

Gamera fights a dinosaur thing that shoots rainbows out its ass. Really.

This one actually reminds me of Godzilla '14, since the villain monster gets far more screen time than Gamera, who gets one scene in the beginning and another in the middle before disappearing until the final ten minutes. I wonder how much fanboy whining would have been directed at this movie had the internet existed in 1966.

The Maze Runner

Based on the kids' book of the same name, this movie is centered around a young boy named Thomas who wakes up in the presence of other boys. Thomas doesn't fit in very well because unlike the other boys, Thomas can't remember his own background. His curiosity gets the better of him, much to the annoyance of the leader of the boys who becomes even more annoyed when the first girl arrives in their presence.

Even though this was a great movie, the best description of The Maze Runner would be:
The Hunger Games meets Lord Of The Flies.

The sequel is already the works, with a release set for September 2015.

Rover.

Ten years after the collapse of civilization in Australia, a former farmer and wife killer played by Guy Pierce finds his car has been stolen by these assh*les who are fleeing a murder/robbery, and have left the brother (Robert Paterson - no, he doesn't sparkle in the sunlight in this movie) of one of the bandits for dead. Obsessed with finding his car - even though he's gotten the crashed truck of said assh*les to work- - he's impressed a wounded Robert Paterson to help him get his car back But the cost of getting a thing may not be worth getting it.. Could be seen as a precursor of the Mad Max movies. Very good movie.

Dumb. Very dumb. "Written by chimps" dumb. And yet somehow enjoyable, simply because Roland Emmerich knows how to do mindless spectacle very well, even if none of it makes any goddamned sense. It can't compare with the 1954 or 2014 versions of Godzilla, but revisiting it after 16 years (I saw it in a theatre), it's surprisingly fine. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but the Blu-ray was worth the five bucks I paid for it.

That Hamilton Woman

The title refers to a young woman who is the mistress of British Naval hero Horatio Nelson and the film is about their affair during the Napoleonic Wars.
