Mosley (1998), Episode 4
The final episode. This is Mosley and his BUF party embracing full-blooded Fascism from 1933 onwards. It's a story that any serious student of 1930s British politics will be familiar with - the Kensington Olympia rally of 1934, the 'Battle of Cable Street' of 1936, and Mosley's arrest and imprisonment under Defence Regulation 18b in 1940.
I think this is a fair-minded mini-series and well worth watching if you get the chance. It avoids being just left-wing propaganda. Mosley was a complex and very talented character in numerous respects. Many observers in his own era felt that he could have achieved great things had he remained in the conventional political sphere, and could even have been Prime Minister. Nonetheless he obviously had serious character flaws, which were apparent even at an early stage, at least in this portrayal of him, and maybe these inevitably led to his demise. I remember seeing an interview with him from the 1960s, and feeling some degree of revulsion about his general demeanour and attitude at the time.
All the same, fascinating stuff.
