Interstellar

Many people here on WP who have seen Interstellar have said that they didn't like it very much, so I'm not going to post much about it,
other than that it was a great movie with great performances all around. It was worth seeing.

I was rather disapointed in it, but maybe I missed something. If there are some particular points that you liked, maybe you could help me see its better side by discussing them.

I'm not going to post anything about points in Interstellar that I did like.

Nebraska. I loved it. Bruce Dern is awesome! Some very funny moments but also sad and touching. Has anyone else seen it?

The Equalizer

How does it compare to the original TV show?
I wasn't aware there was a TV show already, so I can't say. I did like the first halve of the movie, but then it became kind of rushed.

Actually, the old series was way back in the 1980's, when the Equalizer was played by a dumpy white guy with a British accent as a former intelligence agent trying to redeem his past by helping people in trouble.

"Winter Light" by Ingmar Bergman - a self absorbed pastor, losing his faith, is unable to help his parishioners. He creates his own pain while asking why god has forsaken him.

Even more than most Bergman films, "Winter Light" is very quiet and still, but only in its cinematic style. The rage of emotions in this film are the equal of many action films. The torment of self doubt and the fear of opening up to another person are beautifully expressed.

Additionally it is one of the most beautifully photographed Bergman films. The title describes the quality of light; that soft glow that comes during the short day in a northern country as the light bounces off the snow and the horizon blends seamlessly with the sky.

It is a cold and unforgiving film. In the end, the pastor continues with a sermon he doesn't believe and he knows that the only one listening doesn't believe. And yet he goes on.

I have. It was a great movie and it was great that director Alexander Payne stood up to the studio by filming Nebraska in B&W.

I've wanted to see that for a long time. How was it?

European Vacation (1985)
Christmas Vacation (1989)

Watched these again with the audio commentaries turned on.

Vegas Vacation (1997) doesn't have a commentary, unfortunately.
