Very enjoyable first two episodes.

Nice choice. I have watched the first two episodes as well now. Seems like a good show to me so far.

Two episodes of Man At The Top, an early 1970s UK series centred on the character of Joe Lampton, who first appeared in the 1959 film Room At The Top.

Lampton is a blunt and ruthless Yorkshire businessman from working class origins, who now lives in the South of England with his wife, Susan. The plots seem to largely revolve around his business dealings and his affairs with various high-powered middle class women, and the two are often interrelated. Needless to say, Susan isn't too happy about things most of the time.

Lampton is played by Kenneth Haigh and Susan by Zena Walker.

Two more episodes of Man At The Top from early 1971. Joe Lampton is caught up in a plot by a blackmailer to discredit one of his friends, and it results in the suicide of the latter. Then he gets involved in a relationship with his son's 18-year-old girlfriend. Pretty strong stuff!

The episodes feature guest appearances by the glamorous Caroline Blakiston and by Katy Manning, who shortly after this became Jon Pertwee's assistant 'Jo Grant' in Doctor Who.

Three more episodes of Man At The Top from 1971.

Joe Lampton has seemed almost invincible so far, but all of a sudden everything falls apart for him. He loses his wife, his mother and his business, and when he turns for consolation to his former teenage mistress (played by Katy Manning), even she makes a fool of him. Presumably as a gritty Northerner and a self-styled 'bastard', he'll get back on his feet, as there are still 14 episodes of this series to go.
