Last Week Tonight with John Oliver from March 30, 2025
streamed on Max
It was about Stun Guns and the company that makes them, Axon.

The King's Affection
from DVD
episodes 7 and 8
Image
I call him "crazy eyes." He is the chief eunuch, part of an envoy from Ming. He is played by Park Ki-woong and his character has a LOT of rage and resentment. He bullies the weak and those below his station, and despises those above his station.

In the scene near the end, where his as some blood on his mouth, this is after the Prince (Park Eun-bin) beats the ba-geebeez out of him for cutting off the chamber maid of the crown prince's hair. She is like a second mother to the crown prince. Ki-woong it a tall gentleman, and his character struts around like a 1950s biker thug. Park Eun-bin is a short fair framed woman portraying a man. There was something gratifying watching the crown prince beat him so badly. He looked quite shocked.
The series has many, many closeups of people clinching their fist as they show restraint. The crown prince lost his cool for once.

Watching Life On Mars

It's good for a laugh if you don't mind the zero pc attitudes of 1970s UK policing

The King's Affection

Finished episode 20

How many series do you know end with the message "Thank for watching <insert name of show here>" ?
A few South Korean series end that way. Sometimes with a photo or shot of the cast and crew. There is something admirable about that.

First five episodes of "Severance". I saw so many clips on YouTube that I ended up getting a subscription to Apple TV to watch it. I love it so far.

Hyper Knife on Hulu

Season 1, episodes 1 and 2
Jung Se-ok is a brilliant and talented neurosurgeon student that has one problem. She is laser focused on neurosurgery. It is her whole life. She is hyper fixated on it. All of her test come back with Perfect written across them. So she has an issue with her professor when another student is recommended to go to Boston for research. She storms into his office (a no-no) and hollers at him (a no-no) and berates the student he has recommended (a no-no) in front of the student's mother... Oopsy daisy. When the professor informs her the mother is sitting there, she essentially refers to her as an idiot as well. (head slap moment) She loses surgical privileges for the next year, until he is at a conference, there is an ER patient, and none of the other doctors will perform the surgery on him. She does everything perfect when the professor returns, and has her escorted ejected from the operating room. He then joins her in the hall where she yells at him (some more) and he slaps her. She is expelled from the surgical program.

She becomes a pharmacist by day, but when the need is there, she performs unlicensed surgeries on criminals. Footage of a very difficult surgery is recorded and makes it online, with no other information other than it shows exceptional skill. The police is looking for these unlicensed surgeries.

Meanwhile, the professor surgeon, her old mentor, is looking for an exceptional neurosurgeon because he has a tumor in a very sensitive part of the brain. One slip/mistake and it could mean the end of his surgical career. They are alike in that they both obsessed with brain surgery and perfection, but unlike him, she doesn't have impulse control.

Will she perform the surgery? Will she purposefully nick something? Will she kill another person that threatens her avenue for performing surgeries? Did I forget she kills a nurse for blackmailing her surgery gig? The nurse was pretty scummy anyway. Anything for a Won (Korean currency) and a criminally reckless nurse.

I just found out about this series today. It started in March, and it stars Park Eun-bin.

Last night I finished watching my way through the next eight episodes (disc 3) of:

The Outer Limits [1963–1965]
<=>"There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture."

This time I'm trying to get this post into the correct forum rather than into the wrong one.

- S1.E17, "Don't Open Till Doomsday" [Jan 20, 1964]
- S1.E18, "ZZZZZ" [Jan 27, 1964]
- S1.E19, "The Invisibles" [Feb 3, 1964]
- S1.E20, "The Bellero Shield" [Feb 10, 1964]
- S1.E21, "The Children of Spider County" [Feb 17, 1964]
- S1.E22, "Specimen: Unknown" [Feb 24, 1964]
- S1.E23, "Second Chance" [Mar 2, 1964]
- S1.E24, "Moonstone" [Mar 9, 1964]

This is the original The Outer Limits...not only was the picture not in high-definition, it wasn't in color.

Still EXCELLENT!

Its' Okay to Not Be Okay (2020)

Episode 1

Sometimes I wonder when I watch a DVD I have not watched in a while of a program I was passionate about, will it still seem as good?
It is. This series is still one of my favorites.

Hyper Knife (2025)

Episodes 4, 5, and 6

Park Eun-bin is great in this role as a brilliant and talented neurosurgeon. She is not a forgiving person, and if someone threatens her physically, her future as a surgeon, or the small diner where she eats her lunch, she will retaliate. We learn she does have some impulse control. While sitting across a guy she does not like, you see her get up, walk behind the couch he is sitting on, grab something, and the proceed to wrap a cord around his neck and pull back. Then the scene snaps back and she is still sitting in a chair across from him. A few minutes prior was a scene where the same guy is talking to her mentor Dr. Choi. He says something to the effect that Dr. Choi must have had "relations" with Se-ok (Park Eun-bin). Dr. Choi glares at the guy. He then gets up and slashes the guy's throat. Then the scene switches back to him still sitting, still glaring. The guys says he was just kidding, and laughs.
They guys is talking to each, separately, because wealthy, famous, unnamed person needs a tumor removed. He wants Dr. Choi to perform the surgery, and Dr. Choi will only do it if Se-ok assists, because he needs the best.

Towards the end of episode six, in a voice over montage of past events, Se-ok narrates her surgical entrance paper. In the paper she describes what sounds like hyperactive attention deficit disorder.

The episode ends cruelly with me wanting to know what happens next.

Two more episodes, and I have to wait six more days!

By the way, I'm giving the show very broad strokes here.

It's Okay to Not Be Okay (2020)

Episode 2 and 3 (end of first DVD disc)

I enjoy the drama, and the mystery of the over all story arch. I really enjoy the comedy in this show.

(not a spoiler. just ramblings)

Synchronist moment: Today I learned that the actor Seo Ye-ji who plays Go Mun-jeong (also spelled Moon-young), has been in the news the last day or so. (Memory, don't fail me now) Back in 2021 there were reports of her bullying people in school, being rude to co-workers, and having an unhealthy clingy relationship with a co-star. It has come out that the company that was managing her hired people to fabricated the stories to divert attention away from the companies internal problems. One of those problems was the co-founder of the company had been dating a 15 year client. She killed herself in February, on his birthday.
Seo Ye-ji has not performed in anything since 2022 when she was in the Korean series Eve.

What do I think of this? At the time, I thought the accusations against her sounded more like her character in It's Okay to Not Be Okay. I thought this was curious. It has the quality of being a rumor. She is with new management, and they are suing her old management. Over all, I don't really care because the old management is denying everything. There is no way for me to know the truth. I'll leave it up to the Korean courts.

Regardless, I never hear such controversy surround Park Eun-bin. I stumbled across and nice article in Forbes about her and Hyper Knife. I'm not going to provide the link but if any is remotely interested, one can do a search on "Forbes Park Eun-bin". The article is called Park Eun-Bin Delves Into The Dangerous Mindset Of A Killer Doctor.
