The Persuaders
First episode of this UK show from 1971-72. Stars Roger Moore and Tony Curtis as a couple of layabouts with too much money and too much time on their hands, so they fill the gap by driving around the French Riviera in ludicrously expensive cars in pursuit of criminals.
Sort of a sequel to The Saint that's even more tongue in cheek. On the evidence of this pilot episode, Moore's character will, as in 'The Saint' and virtually every other ITC series, continue to solve issues by whacking the baddies in the face with his fists, whereas Curtis, as an American, already displays a penchant for shooting people.
One good thing about my DVD box set is that there are lots of commentaries by the actors and various members of the production team. Here's Curtis, for example:
"It's not as easy as you would think...er...working on location. It looks like it's easy...and it is easy." Moore interrupts at this point and takes over the narrative. Just as well really.
