Last night we watched an animated reconstruction of the four episodes of:

Doctor Who [1963–1989]: "The Savages" [Jun 4–Jun 18, 1966]



Doctor Who's first episode was broadcast November 23, 1963...and Doctor Who is still going! Though who plays the Doctor has changed a few times (fortunately, it is a science fiction show and the people from Doctor Who's planet regenerate rather than die when they are younger..."younger" is a relative term...if not killed they can live centuries between regenerations). And it is on TV so it initially broadcast 1963–1989, then a TV movie in 1996, and then it began rebroadcasting in 2005...though courtesy of it being Science Fiction they were able to change the show enough in 2023 that they considered it to be a new show.

Another result of the show running that long is that early episodes were "lost" because the BBC didn't keep copies. But, in 1978 the BBC changed its policies and wanted a copy of all Doctor Who episodes on file and they have gone to great lengths to recover the lost episodes. Most notably, Doctor Who's audience was able to help with the reconstruction. Some members of the original audience were kids who liked the show so much they recorded the episodes when they watched them. They were kids, however, and it was the 60's...what they were able to record was the audio from the show, with reel-to-reel tape recorders...VCRs were not yet a "thing".

And the BBC has started doing animated reconstructions of the lost episodes with the audio tracks the kids recorded! This is one of the reconstructions.

This is the British version, with Ben Miller as Professor Jasper Tempest.
I finished the fourth series this morning. There were six episodes per series. There may be a series 5.

I enjoyed the actors and the acting. Frances de la Tour plays the elderly mother, Adelaide Tempest. In series 4, Zoë Wanamaker joined the cast as Zelda Radclyffe, Adelaide's sister.

There is a German version of Professor T as well. It started in 2017. I might look for that. Maybe not.
