Heh, as far as I'm concerned, Pulp Fiction and Fight Club were two of the five best movies to be released in the 1990's. I have to agree with Bec that Fight Club's ending wasn't the best, though. According to a coworker of mine, the original ending was changed. Edward Norton's character was simply supposed to die when he shot himself at the end of the movie.

OK - the ending was maybe a bit of a cop-out, but I still think it worked..... And the rest of the film is just so great, who cares?

My tuppen'orth: Best 5 films of the 90s (and 2000s a bit, because I can't be bothered to check the borderline films that I can't quite remember were actually made in the 90s or not) in no particular order:

The Fifth Element

My five would probably be Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, The Game, The Shawshank Redemption, and ... Well, perhaps I'll think of a fifth at some point in the future. I haven't seen three of the five that you mentioned, and I don't remember being particularly enthralled by The Fifth Element.

I'm an absolute Sci-Fi nut, and found the Fifth Element the most all-round clever, witty, original Sci-Fi movie of the decade, so it had to be in there (even Chris Tucker couldn't mess it up, it was so good!) I know its one of those films you either like or don't though.....

I take it that means you haven't seen "The Usual Suspects", "Amelie" or "Memento" then? This is a situation that must be remedied asap! All 3 are utter all-time classics, no question about it. I've never seen "The Game" so can't comment, but I thought "Pulp Fiction" and "Redemption", although good, were both a little overrated - "Suspects" wipes the floor with "Pulp Fiction" in my (less than) humble opinion.

I didn't watch the credits because i saw it at the theater with my friend. When the movie ended, we were already late to rendevous with our home escort, so we decided to skip the credits. Sorry!

I didn't think Fight Club was that exciting anyway, I was told I have ADHD as well, so it may come as no surprise, I don't like slow or boring movies. To me a movie should be better than reality, since reality bites (har har), any movie that comes too close to that or too close to the boring average life pace, I push down a few notches on my movie list, the only exceptions are if it is a real event that had a reason be filmed or was an extrordinary thing and therefore not boring.

I also like originality unless the remake is done not to close in time to original, tastefully, and truthful to the spirit of the original, but some should never be remade as they are about as good as they could ever get, and who can be expected to repaint the Mona Lisa.

No way Fight Club could pass Lord of the Rings, Spiderman, Dark City, Matrix 1 and 2 (3 don't count, since it totally negated the point of the story), Second Hand Lions (one of the few life types I like and it was not a simple drama as included a lot of comedy as well, one of the best overall films of all time), Soldier (another one of my absolute favorite movies, a sort of modern take on a Frankenstein theme), Brotherhood of the Wolf (excellent mix of horror, action, and really cool fight scenes, and quality acting, I loved the surprise twist when the main character revealed his bloodbrother like status to his friend and took on a whole new persona for vengence), Dinosaur was one of the best Disney or cgi films ever on par with Disney's classic Sword in The Stone (another favorite), Gladiator was a beautifully made movie and well detailed with a good blend of fact and fiction (the scene of him walking in the wheat field is so memorable), Puppet Masters (the one with Donald Sutherland, cool and believable government agency behavior and actions), Phantoms, Intensity (a good freak you out movie), Tron, The Last Starfighter (quirky, cheesy, but still fun to watch), Space Balls, Sole Survivor (second version (the first being Carnival of Souls) of the Final Destination like storyline only much better), Silver Bullet, Dreamscape, Ice Age, Shrek, Darkness Falls, Princess Bride, Lake Placid (some of the best comedic dialogue ever, as well as a good horror tale), The Hitcher (one of the best slasher/thriller/horror films ever), The Mummy, The Last Boyscout, Executive Descision (one of Steven Segals best films, because it is not atypical of him and thus he pays more attention to acting), The Neverending Story, Dark Crystal, Legend, Willow, Real Genius, Top Secret, Naked Gun series, Airplane series, Blazing Saddles (whatever happened to the great Clevon Little?), Silver Streak, The Toy, Big, Indepence Day, Terminator 1-3, Heavy Metal, Bone Daddy (creepy), Shadowbuilder (one of the best b horror films ever with the stars of Candyman and Deepspace Nine), Walking Tall 1-3, The Forbidden Planet, The Thing (1951), Gods and Generals, The Big Red One, All Quiet on the Western Front (either version), Dragonslayer, Ronin (some of the best car chase scenes, high action, and a great spy thriller), The Key to Rebecca, The Desert Fox, The Misfit Brigade, April Fool's Day, Mission to Mars, The Pit and The Pendulum (with Lance Hendrickson), Alien, Aliens, Predator, Project A, Star Wars (all of them), Wrath of Kahn, First Contact (star trek films), Planet of the Apes (original), Ghostbusters 1-2, Jeckyll and Hyde Together Again, Mannequin, Fright Night, The Mask, Krull, Jason and The Argonaughts (original), Clash of Titans, Conan the Barbarian and the Destroyer, Smokey and the Bandit 1-2, Cannonball 1-3, Sinbad movies from the '60's, King Kong (original, remake, and King Kong Lives), Godzilla (1954 and the new one), Rodan, Gammera, Frankenstein (1933 and the remake with Randy Quaid), I Bury the Living (with Richard Boone), and many more this is just a short list of some of my favorite films, as I have many favorites.

I like the Game too, but I like the similar and older movies, April Fool's Day and Seconds better. Seconds is a freaky movie too, I still can't believe it was made in 1966.

OMG! How could I have forgotten the great, unfathomably overlooked classic of the 90s in my list? I just checked, and Amelie and Memento were made in 2001 and 2000 respectively, so my top 5 90s list can now officially become:

Don't mind him. My only thing was the first one's less than stellar ending. They made this character up to be powerful and at the end, he uses no magic, simply tries to strangle Harry, and is easily dispatched by a simple burning hands spell and no counter spell is even attempted.

Your bottom quote on the release date is confusing and in another post I thought you mentioned a released date that had all different numbers then the one in your quote. Are two Harry Potter movies coming out this year?

No, only one movie is coming out this year.

Movie 4: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire comes out the 18th of November, 2005.

Book 6: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince comes out 16th of July, 2005.

So both a new book and a new movie are being released this year! I AM SO EXCITED!! !

Oh boy I feel bad for hubby's uncle and my sons' great uncle, his real name is Harry Potter. I think he dreads the phone calls each time a new movie and book is released.

I read the Goblet Of Fire cover to cover in a single day. How's that for dedication?

No, you are not the only one. I read the first four books (and LOVED them) before the first movie was even released. The books will always be better. I do have to say, though, that I really, really enjoy the movies too.



That really sucks to be him. I read a news article about a British soldier who died at the age of nineteen. Anyways, his name was Harry Potter, and now hundreds (possible even more than that) of people visit his grave every year. Here's the article and picture (at least, Archmage will enjoy it):



Harry Potter fans pay homage at graveside of British soldier in Israel

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Fans of literary boy wizard Harry Potter have been beating a path to the tomb of a 19-year-old British soldier who is buried in a cemetery close to Tel Aviv. Corporal Harry Potter, a member of the Royal Worcestershire regiment, was killed 66 years ago during fighting in the southern West Bank town of Hebron and was subsequently laid to rest in a cemetery in the town of Ramle.

"Every day tourists and visitors come wanting to see Harry's grave," the cemetery's custodian Ibrahim Huri told the Maariv daily on Tuesday.

"At first I didn't know why they were interested in this grave, but then I was told there were books and movies about him."

The local council has recently added the grave to the official tourist guide.

"There is great interest and curiosity over Harry's grave," Ramle deputy mayor said. "We want to make an historical investigation into the soldier killed in Hebron when he was only 19."

I'd have to say that The Chronicles of Riddick will always hold a special place in my heart, even if it was a really bad movie and a box-office failure (cost 110 million, made only half of that back).
