^^I've never heard of that one. Thanks!

^Agreed; Clannad and Kanon did change my life; while I was struggling in university residence, they gave me hope. I then went on to watch AIR, Angel Beats, Little Busters, and even Charlotte, to see what they were like.

For me, my masterpiece list is quite a bit shorter:
Anime: Clannad, Kanon
Runner up: Digimon Tamers
Manga: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, RG Veda, and Claymore
Anime Movies: Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, The Last Unicorn [if the last one even counts]

What's Haruhi Suzumiya about? I've heard a little bit about it. I watched the first episode of Spice and Wolf, but I'm not very interested in business and trading and economics and so forth.

I'd put Haruhi into the slice-of-surreal-life category. I enjoyed the show, the movie, and the novels enough to own them all. It has romantic elements and frightening elements, but in retrospect it seems predominantly focused on the mysteries of what's actually happening in that world.

I finished Kokoro Connect, and found it immensely satisfying again. I think the show does a good job of showing how people recover from emotional wounds. Each individual character goes through a transformation and comes out more capable of being themselves.

I then started Lucky Star again. That show keeps the jokes coming so fast and thick that I found new comic elements even after watching it a couple of times already.

Spice and Wolf I think is made or break with how much you can accept the trading and economics, even if you would find the chemistry interesting. I have studied economics and am the sort of person who would take interest of an economy in writing up a D&D world, so yeah.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Well for starters it is by Kyoto Animation which is behind Kanon and Clannad, it was the show it released right before Kanon in 2006, and is arguably what made the studio the powerhouse it was, and that characters can be "moe" without actually being negative portrayals. It was a big deal in the day, although I have been hearing that a part was because it was a big reflection of how anime was back then and has lost a little relivance, and its second season has an infamous arc that without a doubt can have 6-7 episodes skipped unless you really want to watch them. But those were kind of an ingredient to ready for the movie, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, which is one of the best things the studio has created. As for what Melancholy is about, it is actually kind of what makes the show in the first place, you should not know what it is about and instead try to piece it together, the first episode needed is episode 0, which is a purposful terrible student film the characters make later in the series, but is littered with intrigue and clues, as narrated by Kyon, the character we follow the rest of the show. Because the show is a seemingly normal school life, with what seems to be a bunch of strange elements around a girl called Haruhi who wants to meet strange things.

It is a lot of reading between the lines, like the personalities behind their roles, and is the sort of thing that becomes very funny in retrospect. On top of that, there is also the quirk that the show has multiple viewing orders: the original broadcast order (the best one), the DVD order (mostly chronological), the chronological order (episode 0 is put where it would be), and the 2009 order (where the second season is taken into account, which actually fits chronologically within the first season), Wikipedia gives a list of the orders. It might sound it is more complicated than it is worth, but the original broadcast order goes a way to make it enjoyable that it becomes a puzzle and more weight on the climax. And a bit to add, the titular character can be a bit mean to people as she goes a way to use them in ways that best to make herself not bored, part of it is that regardless she makes things fun regardless of embarrassment at the time, the other is asking if she is seriously just do that, and there is a limit.

And to add in Lucky Star, another show by Kyoto Animation that takes a lot after Haruhi Suzumiya, with some shared cast, which adds some meta humour. The main character, a female otaku, specifically voiced by the actress for Haruhi, and is pretty big on otaku culture.

To expand on Kokoro Connect mentioned earlier, I think it is one of my favourite anime in how it handled characters. That they all seem to have a hidden side that they are afraid of showing or facing, and with some support they can be the best them.

^Very interesting!
Are Haruhi and Kokoro Connect on Youtube, or do I have to go hunting?
Also, has anyone read Pandora Hearts? I saw it in a bookstore several days ago and it looked very mind-screwy but also intriguing.

Crunchyroll has the original series of KC for free, but not the OVAs. I don't know where to find Haruhi.

I have seen the anime of Pandora Hearts, and I remember liking it at the time. It has a sort of dark Alice in Wonderland, where character elements taken are kind of like demons. I enjoyed it for the quirky characters, and I seem to remember the anime ended up apparently changing some things to give a reasonable conclusion within its run-time while the manga goes much longer. I was especially fond of the OP song in the past.

Yeah, Haruhi is on YouTube as you found, in fact the dub is on the account I linked a part of, and the sub is also on there. But it is not that hard to find websites that can give access to most anime easily, which I would say with the proviso of some virus protection on your computer for some of them, but are more reliable with better picture than YouTube. The ones I currently use are:
https://ww1.gogoanime.io/
http://www.animeseason.com/
http://kissanime.ru/
http://anilinkz.io/ (the moderator here is an a**hole, and the site tends to glitch a lot)
Although, I also have a paid subscription of http://www.crunchyroll.com/ where it is legal and I can watch a lot of things.
I don’t know if it is dub you prefer or not, but I think that sites with those are harder, but not impossible to find a website with just google.

^I used to use gogoanime, but some of the videos have virus-adds embedded in them [I found that out the hard way when I tried to watch the Tales of the Abyss anime].

Yes that is why always have a computer that you don't care about as much and watch non legal anime on there.

^^^By the way, who are your favourite characters in Clannad and Kanon? I like Nagisa, Fuko, Ushio, Kotomi, Ayu, and Mai best.

^...Um...I don't think that will work for me.

In terms of anime site recommendations, https://9anime.to always works for me. Never seen a virus ad (even when dealing with the site without an adblocker), and their video player works on every device in my house - even the web browser on my living room Smart TV (most sites won't work on the Smart TV...not even Crunchyroll).

^Thank you very much! Does it have subbed versions, too?
