Good news, there is a petition that is against banning anime. It must be new though because the amount of people that have signed it (577) pales in comparison to the 8k signatures the one for banning it has.

They can't ban it unless they put an embargo on Japan and we're not going to do that.

Nobody who actually understood what Anime was would try to ban it.

That would be like deciding to ban CGI cartoons or Walt Disney Cartoons etc.. or Stop Motion.

It's a Genre not a subject.

I agree that it would be stupid to ban anime, but it's not a genre. It's even broader than a genre, since there are many different genres within anime (action, sci-fi, romance, horror etc). I think of anime as a medium that's just as varied as, say, american TV.

You need to watch the third one too... More characters and more sexy foreign accents (in the English version)!

Yes, it probably is broader than a genre, but it is also a genre unto itself.

Does US Animation done in Anime style class as Anime? Eg: The Animatrix, The Clone Wars etc? Or are they just cartoons?

They're just cartoons. Unless it was made specifically in Japan, it's not anime. Same thing applies to manga.

I know that concept may seem a bit ridiculous to those who aren't passionate about anime and manga, but it's kind of like the difference between an authentic action figure and a knock-off toy: no matter how good the knock-off is, it just doesn't have the same feel to it as the authentic one.

In some ways it seems ridiculous but I was only seeking an opinion to see what the belief was.

So, how do we distinguish between good American Cartoons (eg: Snow White) and Good American Cartoons Done in Anime Style - or don't we?

BTW: What US Cartoons are anime style?
Iron Giant?
Clone Wars?

Is Animatrix American? There seems to be a big Japanese influence there.

ok... sorry - I might be hijacking the thread (I was gonna delete all this but I'd already pushed submit  )

There really isn't a distinction between good cartoons done American style and good cartoons done Japanese style. A good cartoon is just a good cartoon.

Some examples of cartoons done anime style:

Avatar: The Last Airbender
Code Lyoko
Ben 10
Teen Titans
Totally Spies
Kappa Mikey

The Animatrix is not entirely American; the artists who worked on it were Japanese.

Hope I've been of some help to you. :)

What do you mean? Like Chrono Trigger? That was an awesome game, but I haven't really liked many other Japanese games. Never been much of a console gamer.
