The Nightmare.

No, this isn't a case of me having a brain fart and reposting about seeing the same movie. This is also a documentary of the same name, made in circa 2015-2016, and about sleep paralysis as well. Unlike the previous documentary, this for the most part had a smaller scope, dealing with just a few Americans who have experienced this frightening phenomenon, and relies on dramatic reenactments. While this movie did provide moments of genuine chills as the various interviewees recalled seeing half-wakeful nightmare visions in their bedrooms, I think the first documentary I saw was not only scarier, but was also more professionally produced. Still, very creepy, especially seen alone during the wee hours of the morning, like I had.

the skeleton twins, a serious film starring bill hader and kristen wiig about two adults who lost their father to suicide when they were 14 and try to quell their grief self-destructively. despite the hollywood ending, it spurred a good discussion among fellow college students. warning: language, sexual scenes (no nudity), and not-too-gory depictions of attempted suicide.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The 2016 version just having played on Fox only minutes ago. Tim Curry appears in the role of the criminologist/narrator, while real life transsexual actor Laverne Cox gives a completely hilarious performance as Dr. Frankenfurter. As far as the original and the remake are concerned, I like them both.

Somehow, one of my family members convinced me to watch The Forest. It was...bad might not be the right word. As a horror movie, it was actually pretty creepy at times (although that attempted jumpscare at the end was so bad it was actually funny). It's just that it's pretty tone def to make a movie about a real place where real people really commit suicide portraying their souls as monstrous servants of a genius loci, and there's a really pervasive air of orientalism to the whole thing. So, legitimately creepy movie, but hella culturally insensitive.

The Day After

It was a made for TV movie in the 80s about nuclear war, but I found it on YouTube. I read the Wikipedia and IMDB entries detailing the media hype before it premiered, and thought "Wow"

I watched this one and Threads a few years back. The Day After is haunting. Threads is kind of legitimately horrifying.

I remember watching it back in my junior high days, and having the poop scared out of me at the time.
