The rise of Germany’s National Socialism (otherwise known as Nazism) should not be regarded as a conspiracy of madmen. Millions of "good" people found themselves in a society spiraling into terrible chaos. Viggo Mortensen plays John Halder, a Professor at a University, who joins the National Socialist party for career advancement. John is also close friend with Jewish colleague Maurice (Jason Isaacs) who he served with in World War I. Little by little the National Socialists push agendas that John finds himself at odds with while slowly turning Maurice into a victim of the state. This is a hard movie to watch.

The scariest thing is there are things in movie that seem to mirror today's events... although not as overtly brazen.
