I posted a similar topic in the Games forums, so I thought I should post one for this forum as well. What movies or television shows do you feel pressured to like even though you hate them. To me it's...

1.) 300: I STRONGLY dislike this movie, even though everyone else loves it. To me it was nothing more than another war movie. The acting was horrible, the dialog was cheesy (THIS IS SPARTA!! !! !! !!... ugh), and the over usage of CGI was more nauseating than it was artistic. I also doubt that anyone is going to remember this movie in a few years from now.

2.) Any movie by Kevin Smith: Everyone loves his movies, and they are able to find something funny about them. I don't and can't. I just cannot sit down and watch Clerks, Dogma, Mall Rats, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and any of the others for more than fifteen minutes (trust me, I TRIED). I either leave the room, change the channel, put in a different movie, or zone out into the internet. I'm starting to think that the reason why I don't think they're funny is because I'm AS.

3.) Iron Man: I don't hate this movie, but I don't think it's that awesome either. Maybe it's because I'm not a huge fan of CGI (which also explains why I hate 300). I don't really have anything else to say about this movie.

4.) Family Guy: I always saw the style of this show's humor as nothing more than a fad (like Beavis and Butthead), and the show shouldn't have lasted as long as it does now. The characters are no where near as memorable as the ones from The Simpson's, and are just fillers for unfunny randomness (Greased Up Deaf Guy, WTF?). To me, Family Guy went downhill FASTER and STEEPER than The Simpson's EVER did.

5.) Original Shows on Adult Swim: Granted that there are some decent shows on Adult Swim (The Venture Bros., some episodes of Robot Chicken) but the rest are quite possibly the worst shows ever made. The animation on Squidbillies, Xavier, and many others look like they were done by twelve-year-olds, the live-action shows are ridiculously cheesy, and the humor in these shows don't exist. If it weren't for The Venture Bros., King of the Hill, and anime on Saturdays, this immature block of terrible shows would be completely unwatchable.

If any of you happen to like those movies/T.V. shows, I have nothing against you and I'm just expressing my opinion, so please don't send any hate replies. If you are pressured to like certain movies/shows by your pears, feel free to post them here.

Pulp Fiction. Anything by Tarantino in fact. To me it seems a totally gratuitous celebration of ridiculous pointless violence and grossness.

Which is not a problem, we all have different tastes, the thing is that just about everybody I know goes on and on about what wonderful works of art his films are. With a barely concealed implication being that anyone who doesn't like them is a lowbrow, uncool, ignorant philistine.

Star Wars. Again, the problem is that I am fed up of being told there's something wrong with me for finding them totally uninteresting.

Rocky Horror Picture Show.

For me, Hell would be spending eternity in one of those Rocky Horror conventions where everybody dresses up and sings along to the so-called 'music'. Actually, hell would be a mere 5 minutes spent in one of those conventions!

I'm actually a big fan of the original trilogy, but I can understand why people hate this series. I personally am sick of all the Star Wars references, parodies, and quotes being in EVERY SINGLE SHOW ON TELEVISION!

In my case I feel forced by others to like some tv shows, like As the world turns, Goede tijden slechte tijden (Dutch soap opera, very popular, acting is very poor), 90210, Gossip girl, Sex and the city, etc etc. There are also much movies other girls like, but which I simply hate, like Love actually. WHY do girls and women alsways have such a ret*d, predictable and totally not funny sense of humor?

Pretty much every soap opera I'm aware of. The majority of American "comedy" that gets filmed these days aka Scary Movie, Family Guy, Year One, etc. All chick flicks - I haven't seen a single one that I found believable in any way.

''300'', we saw that film during history class, even though it isn't historically accuate.I thought it was horrible too, with poor acting, way to ''heroic'' and so on.

I don't feel pressured to like any movies any more. Because my opinions are my own and everyone else's are their own and I've given up caring what they think.

But as for popular movies that I found pretty awful and am highly unlikely to give a second chance...

American Beauty
2001: A Space Odyssey
Fargo
Napoleon Dynamite

I've decided to revive this topic. I know that some people don't like to read overrated T.V. shows/movies lists, but I personally think that listing them is a great way of letting out some steam. Plus I'm curious of what others think is overrated. Thanks for the replies everyone.

Who in the hell are these people you associate with? I'd tell them to go uckf themselves and walk away. Don't let people manipulate you.

No one really, just whenever I see a Top Overrated movie list on the internet, there's usually one user that complains that the list maker was just trying to start a flame war by bad mouthing the films that are considered the greatest of all time. I believe that these list makers were just venting, because they either feel pressured to like movies they hate or they think that these films don't deserve the recognition they get.

-Pokémon:  Freaking everyone around me was raving about it. I really didn't get what was so great about Pokémon, but like I mentioned in another thread, I was basically forced to watch the show.

-Bond... James Bond: I like some of the movies, but I dislike the character, yet everyone else seems to love that sleazy perv of a hero.

-The Matrix: neat effects and all, but very overrated.

-Spider-Man: these movies were a disappointment, basically leaving out everything that I liked about Spider-Man and turning it into a cheesy soap opera.

-Star Wars: I used to love it as a kid, but I "grew out of it," and became sick of all the Star Wars ads and cultural references everywhere.

Slumdog Millionaire - The little kids did most of the acting and the movie was good until the older versions of them took over (then the plot got silly and the acting wooden). Even worse, it appears the children were grossly underpaid for 6 months of work.

Doubt - I usually like Meryl Streep and the writing of John Patrick Shanley, but after watching the film, I wonder what movie the critics saw.

Titanic - See Doubt

Forrest Gump - See Doubt

Most romantic comedies, all soap operas, the Star Wars prequels, the Home Alone movies. Ugh.
