What did people think of it?

I wonder if in that kind of society, whether Asperger's be considered a genetic weakness.

I think you need to not post four of an identical thread.

And yes, in a future like that, AS would be considered a weakness. Anything out of the 'ordinary' would be a weakness.

I saw the film and wasn't impressed. Too many scientific and technical details were simply wrong.

As for designer children, that's entirely possible. As that future approaches, AS traits that can be designed in (such as superior memorization, math/science skills) without the deficits that accompany AS today probably would be designed in.

None of this is likely to be relevant. Hollywood is doing a very good job of ignoring the real progress being made in humans becoming partially artificial, including now RFID implants (10 years ago), brain interfaces for quadriplegics (5 years ago), and neural interfaces coming soon for the masses to be used for simple control of a computer or other electronic device. So 10 to 20 years hence, we'll be able to amplify existing abilities and add entirely new ones, regardless of DNA.

Any movie with Uma Thurmin is automatically good.

A good friend of mine suggested the film to me. Great film overall.

There are already some individuals like that. It's intellectual giftedness a.k.a. being "smart".

That's not relevant as it's likely to simply complicated the movie. The point of the movie is not to show a realistic potrayal of the futur of technology. The movie make some grim observations about the actual society and what it could become with is ultimate fantasm under his racing for perfomance. Am I the only one who had seen how much the decor and the costumes are colorless and colds? The world of Gattaca is cold because we're aiming to a cold world.

Gattaca was a good film; it dealt with the fear of eugenics/genetic engineering/cloning, which if I recall were pertinent topics during the time the film was released.

I still like to watch it now and again.

I personally like it, as a movie. However I do find the portrayal of science and technology lacking.

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis exist today, and I actually like that fact.

As far as AS in context, yes, an improved version of aspies could be very nice, but I think more can be gained by finding better ways of education for aspies.

Gattaca is okay, nothing more, nothing less.
