So, you're a big Lazenby fan, eh?

On Her Majesty's Secret Service was one of the best-written Bond movies, but Lazenby as Bond made my skin crawl. Then again, my favourite Bond actor was Timothy Dalton, and my favourite Bond movie is a toss-up between The Living Daylights and For Your Eyes Only.

I like Dalton's Bond, too - especially as he was at the time the closest they'd got to the Bond of the books.

And the theme song for The Living Daylights is awesome :)

I thought Dalton's Bond was humorless and missed the point. Bond movies are fantasy/comedies. I saw Casino Royale yesterday and thought it was not just a good Bond movie but also a good movie in its own right, despite the fact that it didn't leave me feeling a good as a Connery or Brosnan rendition. Craig's Bond is free of the campy one-liners but he's far from humorless. He has his own smart sense of humor, and it's easy to believe that this a younger, cocky, more arrogant version of Connery's bond. My favorite line in the movie is delivered by M after Bond screws up, "...[it used to be that] an agent would at least have the decency to defect! God, I miss the cold war!" Casino Royale is very true to the novel and the length is just right unless you have a short attention span. In fact, there was an abrupt edit during the poker game and I realized they had cut some of the game. The "interrogation" is handled really well. We get to see Bond at his macho best, using humor to ridicule and humiliate and antagonize his interrogator, presumable to get it over with quickly. But, my all time favorite is still From Russia with Love. Maybe it's because it's so true to the novel, or maybe it's that lovely Daniela Bianchi, who hardly did any other films, and none in English I think.

My parents probably went to see every Bond movie during the Roger Moore era (late 1970s and early 1980s).

IMO, both Moonraker and View to a Kill were both pretty rank.

Personally, Connery and Brosnan were THE Bond.

A View To A Kill. Sure, Roger Moore was an dried up old prune there, but he went out with a bang, besides, Christopher Walken plays one of the best bond villains Max Zorin, he took no crap...until his demise. Duran Duran composed a great bond theme as well in my opinion, as I  the 80s music.

Both of Timothy Dalton's films are good as well.

Also, You Only Live Twice is excellent, it's either that or the other 2 films above in my opinion.

I seem to be in the minority but I really liked Lazenby (although we'll never know what he could have done long term). I also like the new guy. I never much cared for Pierce Brosnan, he kinda seemed to be almost a "generic Bond" to me. I liked Connery best, but he clearly wanted out by "You Only Live Twice" and wanted only his paycheck in "Diamonds are Forever." Dalton is my second fav, although Craig Pierce has a huge amount of potential.

I think it's a shame that Casino Royale finished only second this week in the Box Office because I loved it. I was rather pessimistic about expectations it but I thought they was gave the series well needed boost. A real return to the cold hearted spy thriller without the silly junk, but perhaps that's not what today's audience want.

Roger Moore was far and away my favorite Bond. He just never took himself seriously, therefore the Moore movies were hysterically funny. You should have ranked Moonraker higher for that reason alone.

Yeah I was one of those kids who thought their were 007's in the world. I guess
i wanted to be him but I was more like (I think his name is Q) building spy tools.

The typical WP poster is far more like real world spies. Spending long hours
behide a computer screen.

It’s nice to see some appreciation of “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” on this thread. I’ve always thought that one of the more under-rated Bond films; superb score by John Barry, excellent villain (Telly Savalas) and the wonderful Diana Rigg (sigh!) as the Bond girl. George Lazenby wasn’t bad, he just wasn’t Connery.

I grew up watching Roger Moore and he always looked like he was enjoying himself in the role, unlike Dalton and Brosnan. It’s the Connery films that I can always watch though; my favourites are “From Russia with Love” (fantastic theme song by Matt Monro and the lovely Daniela Bianchi as the Bond girl) and “Thunderball”. In my opinion, the latter film had the best Bond villain of all, Count Emilio Largo, played with terrific style and menace by Adolfo Celli.

I completely forgot about him for some reason. No Bond film has matched him for the "bad guy that is a good guy." Now "Goldeneye" had that Russian mobster who's name I forget who was OK, but I thought he was awful in "The World Is Not Enough.*"
