I saw what was a really nice episode of Bones, until one of the last sentances at the end. She said Booths reasoning was flawed as a mans sons has autsim and therefore could not get a brocken heart. Not only can my heart be broken, but it has many times. Bones latlely have been transformed from a technically minded woman basing her descions on facts and science into somene who doesnt let a chance to insult others. I am never watching the show again.

You're taking the quote out of context. Booth is talking about if the kid had his heart broken. Bones says it's not possible for his heart to break because he is autistic, but it is in reference to the trouble with the game he had, not just getting his heart broken in general. The kids entire world revolves around playing, not winning, so in this case, it would be impossible to actually break his heart over something he did not care about.

They could have made it clearer in the show, however. I had to watch the end twice to catch that.

Actually I did not

It was all about him not being able to have his heart broke, due to being autstic, which is disproved by my own existence. She never said it was because it was not about winning, if it was she sould have said so since nothing about what she said referenced to what you said. Besisdes She still went from being tactless to openly attacking people

My take was this.

The kid did not have his heart broken because the kid was unaware that anything had been taken from him. The kid lived to play the game, nothing more. He knew nothing about his ability or how good he was. It was the father who was hurt, who perceived his son WOULD HAVE BEEN hurt if he only understood what the other guy had done by videotaping his performance and passing it off as his own.

I agree that how it was conveyed in the script is misleading, but if you watch the scene again, you can see she wasn't saying that autistic kids have no feelings. That would contradict the fact that the kid expressed "joy" when he played the game.

SHe didnt refernce it, and she still said He's autistic his heart cant be broken" It wasnt given any supporting conditions. There fore no matter how many times I watch it, It doesnt seem anything other then that. ANd given the way they had her act latly, I wouldn't be surprise if that was the message.

Ok, now I *know* I totally belong here on WP. I saw this episode last night and the thoughts everyone is expressing on this thread went through my head. I talked about it with my wife, too.

IIRC, what Bones said was, "He's autistic. He doesn't care." Or maybe the order of those sentences was reversed. But my first reaction was WTF???

I decided that the point that I hope she was making was what others have said here: he didn't care about being known as the guy with the top score. He just loved playing the game.

But having said that, the way it came across was definitely: "He's autistic. He doesn't have feelings." Which of course is completely wrong. Ugh.

Let us all remember this....

1. It's only a TV show.

2. They have NEVER come out and said Bones was Aspie or autistic.

3. I doubt the writers have really done their research and will make blunders like this from time to time.

Yea, like I said, I had to rewatch it. It was horrendously worded, and really without some careful thought very much seems to say 'Autistics do not feel ANYTHING.' Didn't they used to have like, test audiences for this kind of thing? You know, to make sure no ones good Christian values were being stepped on or whatnot? Why not have something like that for most things? I mean, not censorship, certainly, but something were some person can say 'Dude. Over the line.'

Well said. I get kinda annoyed when people think that certain people/characters have asperger's when they clearly don't. Most intellectual people are surprisingly neurotypical.

I may have to check out this episode since this talk's got my curiosity rollin' .

I have said she was! :alien:

I still think she (the character) is. And no, don't expect writers to get everything right.

And I repeat, which episode was this?
